{"id":26402,"date":"2017-09-23T11:37:31","date_gmt":"2017-09-23T15:37:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/?p=26402"},"modified":"2017-09-23T11:39:00","modified_gmt":"2017-09-23T15:39:00","slug":"assumption-2017-horrible-imaginings-film-festival-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/2017\/09\/23\/assumption-2017-horrible-imaginings-film-festival-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Assumption (2017) [Horrible Imaginings Film Festival 2017]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Assumption.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-26403\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Assumption.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Assumption.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Assumption-300x160.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Assumption-2x1.jpg 2w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>A man wakes up trapped in a cargo elevator, as time goes by, his spends his time speaking with the disembodied voice from the security room and begins to lose his mind.<\/p>\n<p>Written and directed by Anthony Leone, Assumption is a one location film that does make the most of its location and that trapped feeling that happens when one is stuck in an elevator for an extended period of time.\u00a0 The film explores themes of guilt and purgatory in direct and indirect ways while also showing the true colors of its only onscreen character.\u00a0 However, this could have been done in less time as here the film feels overly long and repetitive after a while.\u00a0 The ideas and the story are good, but the way it\u2019s executed feels like something is either missing or it could have been trimmed by a lot.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Playing the only onscreen character is actor Brian Patrick Butler who does well creating an insufferable character going through a bad situation and losing his patience as things don\u2019t move along while he is stuck.\u00a0 His character is one that shows some layers and some interesting traits, things that feel like they came from his performance.\u00a0 He does make the most out of it and give a strong performance that supports the entire film basically on his shoulders alone.\u00a0 Being the only character in a film, this was necessary to make it work and he does.<\/p>\n<p>The film is shot in an interesting manner with parts of it saturated with red, something that may or may not represent the character\u2019s descent into hell.\u00a0 The film looks very interesting on that front and it\u2019s a strong look for a short film.\u00a0 This adds a lot to the story in a way that is more visual and feels a bit visceral.\u00a0 The film\u2019s one location does force its visuals to be strong or fail and they are thankfully strong.<\/p>\n<p>Assumption has a strong visual setting and a very good performance from the lead, but it is however much too long as it takes too much time on some of the scenes and creates an uneven feeling for its whole.\u00a0 It\u2019s an interesting short and exercise in character development that is mostly entertaining.\u00a0 The film looks good, has some strong themes and plays with the idea of purgatory and how one is alone with their thoughts in the end.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A man wakes up trapped in a cargo elevator, as time goes by, his spends his time speaking with the disembodied voice from the security room and begins to lose his mind.
