\"\"<\/a>The \u201cSlumber Party Massacre\u201d movie series has never really been too much of a straight faced horror movie franchise. The original film is a dark, silly bit of slasher fodder that is famous mainly for its title. The sequel from Deborah Brock basically takes the whole series in a direction that\u2019s bizarre, completely unusual, and borrows very much from 1985\u2019s \u201cFreddy\u2019s Revenge\u201d with its strong and blatant LGBTQ overtones.<\/p>\n

Courtney, the younger sister of the “new girl across the street” in the first film is all grown up now, but suffers from nightmares about the Big Wet Incident. She and the other members of her female rock group go to a condo for the weekend to play music and have fun with their boyfriends. Courtney’s dreams of her sister begin to mix with visions of the driller killer breaking free from his prison to find her and finish her off. As her friends go missing, Courtney has to figure out if she\u2019s going insane or if the Driller Killer is stalking her with his electric guitar\/drill.<\/p>\n

\u201cSlumber Party Massacre II\u201d makes no sense. And I say that as someone who loves junk like \u201cHard to Die.\u201d Brock\u2019s sequel is bathed in eighties ephemera and excess with a ton of bad fashion, and awful clich\u00e9s from the decade. To make things worse, the screenwriter pads the film out to an obscene degree, tacking on unusual musical numbers, and absolutely horrendous lip synching. Star Bernard does the best with what she\u2019s given in the realm of characterization, but it\u2019s all so consistently nonsensical, that you\u2019ll be inspired to give up mid-way. From there it\u2019s about going with the sheer lunacy, or giving up and moving on to something with much more substance.<\/p>\n

There are moments that may or may not be delusions, characters show up and then go missing, and there are some rather disgusting moments of grue, including one involving a zit. What makes the sequel stand out the most is the borrowing from \u201cFreddy\u2019s Revenge\u201d in how the script is mainly one big metaphor for repressed bisexuality. The movie, in a nutshell, is so much more a horror movie about Courtney\u2019s sexuality and how she\u2019s torn between attractions to women (the girl on girl pillow fight is teeming with subtext) and her lust for men. She feels pushed in various directions and it seemingly drives her crazy. The Driller Killer is also a metaphor as he\u2019s a very flamboyant man with an obvious phallic symbol who uses it on both the men and the women in the film.<\/p>\n

This opens us up to so many questions that can either be attributed to purposeful ambiguity or just sloppy writing. Did Courtney\u2019s mom lock her up for being insane or gay? So if the DK was the Original killer who were all the people Courtney was with? Are the characters all symbols of her sexuality? Are they merely symbols of her repressed desires? What\u2019s with all the rockabilly? So did Courtney\u2019s mom REALLY lock her daughter up when all was said and done? Does it mean that the driller killer is also bisexual and is therefore violating the men folk with his weapon of choice? \u201cSlumber Party Massacre II\u201d is one of the so bad it\u2019s good horror comedies, and one that seriously has to be seen to be believed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
