My name is Claire “Fluff” Llewellyn and I’m a British writer/poet/actress/filmmaker living in Chicago.

When I moved to the US in 2004, I was still in my ‘band’ phase. I had been a lead rock vocalist and lyricist in the UK for several years, continuing this activity for a few more years in Illinois. Then I re-discovered a passion for acting, which lead to script writing. Events, meetings and collaborations immersed me in the local Indie Horror scene and prompted me to start my own production company, Bloody Brit Productions. I have produced, written and acted in five films under this label. I also appear on screen in other Indie productions, [and in lesser cases on major productions.]

Aside from film work, I am a self-published poet. My first book, LOVE is a KILLER, is a genre collection, my second book, RHYME & REASON: Facets of a Life, is not.

What is it that attracts you to the horror genre for your chosen field of creative work?
Since early childhood I have been fascinated by the supernatural. I think it’s only natural to have a curiosity for the unknown. As you age the magic is somewhat lost or at least muted as science and logic takes over. By creating fantasy you keep that magic alive, and by creating horror you can escape from the real horror around us, in some cases it can even ground you. But ultimately, who doesn’t like a good scare? That feeling of suspense you get from a carefully designed soundtrack, that atmospheric fog swirling around an ancient Gothic manor… thrilling.

Who inspires you in your work and in life?
I find the following people inspiring in my work: Edgar Allan Poe, Roald Dahl, Alice Cooper, Vincent Price, the list is endless. I would also add the productions of Hammer, Tigon & Amicus studios.

In life although there are many inspiring celebrities that I admire for their generous philanthropic activities, I find inspiration in the everyday people who struggle yet succeed and who embrace compassion and humanity.

Women in horror have made great strides, but it’s clear that a lot of work is still needed to make it a most inclusive genre. To you, what is the importance of a movement like Women in Horror Month?
WiHm has provided an important window of exposure for people like me who are often overlooked. Publicity is still very much a luxury for the popular crowd. So, for me, to have a platform like WiHm that is inclusive across the board is vital for reaching a wider audience.

What would you tell an up-and-coming creative in the world of horror who sees that being a woman/identifying as a women as something that makes it so much more difficult at times?
I would just say “go for it” and don’t let anything stop you! Your talent is not defined by your gender.

What are your favorite bits of helpful advice that you have received about your work or your field?
“Not everyone will like your work, you can’t please everyone.”; “Grow a thick skin!”; “Don’t give up!”

In honor of celebrating Women in Horror Month, who do you believe viewers should keep an eye on in terms of the creative ladies in horror?
Well, there are so many and many that I am not familiar with. To be honest, I’m so busy with my head down, working on my own projects that I am not well acquainted with the scene at all these days. So I could not single anyone out, but I am looking forward to seeing what the future holds for us all.

What do you have coming soon that you can talk to us about?
I have many scripts in the pipeline, books too. I’m currently finishing up an illustrated poem, with the help of 15 illustrators, in aid of NHS UK & US charities, non-genre. Then I have another charity poem campaign in aid of cyber bullying, again non-genre.

Getting back to horror, I’m part of the cast of a modern giallo film, Steal Your Face, which is hoping to finish filming this year. Other than that things are pretty slow as far as upcoming releases are concerned, especially in the horror genre. [I’m hoping for another genre poetry book release later this year in time for the Halloween season events, but I don’t want to jinx myself!]

I would like to mention two events that I’ll be vending at this year: [They would appreciate the shout out]
Midwest Monster Fest, IL – Sept. 3-5
DEADCON, IN – Oct. 15-17

Pop them links to follow your work here:
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm4008764/
https://www.instagram.com/britfluff/
https://linktr.ee/bloodybrit
https://www.reelhouse.org/bloodybrit
https://www.facebook.com/claire.fluff/
https://www.facebook.com/stealyourfacemovie/

Post WiHM Coverage Please introduce yourself.
