Written and directed by Ham Tran, this film is just adorable and fun. The story is simple and clearly aimed at children, but it\u2019s entertaining and complex enough for adults to get into it as well. The adventures and hijinks here are very much for kids and meant to entertain more than make one think, but there is a lesson in there as well. The writing here is fairly clever, with some quips here and there that will be funny to adults while kids will see much more of the humor aimed at them. The childish at times sense of humor is perfect for the story. The directing takes the writing and the audience into consideration and works its magic to make this a film for the whole family.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The cast here is delightful when they need to be and evil when they need to be. There is a fairly clear cut between each of the character\u2019s standpoint for the viewer to be able to clear identify where they stand. The cast here is lovely, with young Malea Emma Tjandrawidjaja as Maika being the stand out. She gives innocence an adorable face and gives the moments where she shows more maturity just the right balance in her performance. The young actors playing Hung and his friend CyBao are good as well, but a bit more exaggerated at times, especially the latter. Some of this is of course for the sake of humor.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Overall, the film looks fantastic with great cinematography and editing. However, the special effects are quite uneven. The magic of Maika\u2019s hair is lovely and looks great, however, the CGI character renditions look a bit dated, yet the film is a 2022 release. This is something that one might want to assume was on purpose to make these aliens and their ship more cartoon-y, however, they end up standing out in the wrong way to adult eyes. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Maika: The Girl from Another Galaxy is an adorable and fun children\u2019s film that is also entertaining for adults. It boasts good performances and a story that has enough twists and action to keep even the most active of audiences glued to their screen. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
