There is some introspection, but not too too much, and there is a movie being shot in the movie, with Randall standing in as the director of this film. There is a ton here and a few things some will be surprised by. The story overall makes great use of its meta status and also makes great use of known characters coming back and new ones of course. This is a much strong entry in the Clerks universe than the pretty much all the others except the one that started it all. This is a universe that finally feels right after the second didn’t hit quite the right way for this viewer. The writing is strong, there are a few bits that look like they may have happened more on the fly which also works here, and the directing is clearly on point for this story and these characters. If this is the last Clerks indeed, it is a strong outing to leave with.

The cast here is almost all familiar faces to the View Askew universe starting with Jeff Anderson and Brian O’Halloran as Randall and Dante, then Jay and Silent Bob played as always by Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith. Then there’s the return of Rosario Dawson, Ben Affleck, and Justin Long among many others. The film has quite a few cameos which could have felt forced, but within the context here, they work. Of course, the leads are the on point, clearly not afraid to get back to their Clerks characters and evolving them a little bit. Everyone here gets a bit of growth, even Silent Bob. The film is very much about advancing in life and the good and the bad of living a life that one may not have chosen exactly. The cast does great here and they make it a film that fans will absolutely love. The new characters here feel like they fit in while not fitting in, something that is, well, fitting here.

The film has an interesting look in that the majority of things happen in color and the film Randall is shooting is done in black and white. The cinematography by Learan Kahanov plays with these look like separate entities that work together quite well. The film itself has a more polished look and the film inside the film is a little less refined, something that (beyond the color and b&w) shows differences between both the filmmaker at work and the fictional filmmaker at work.

Clerks III is a good third entry in this series and it makes for a great ending for the whole thing. There is a lot of emotions put into this one, it feels more mature while still a bit irreverential, it feels very much like a personal film for Kevin Smith. This is possibly the best of the 3 Clerks films and one of the best of Smith’s films. It’s nice to see him back to form and see his work give more on an emotional level.

Following a heart attack, Randall decides to make a film about his life, the store, and those who frequent it.

[12
219,302
post-37884","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-movie-reviews","tag-comedy","tag-drama
["GET
