While many love a good horror movie, a movie is only as good as the music that accompanies it. While some movies choose scores, some horror movies also implement a great soundtrack to go along with it. Often times that soundtrack becomes a recurring element throughout the film, enhancing the experience two fold. A good soundtrack is very important, and these are five great horror films with some Great soundtracks.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Return of the Living Dead (1985)
\n<\/strong>\u201cReturn\u201d is very well known for its soundtrack as much as it is for re-inventing the zombie movie. The soundtrack is just packed with some excellent tunes that also help compliment the film\u2019s momentum. There\u2019s the iconic \u201cTonight We\u2019ll Make Love Til We Die\u201d from SSQ, Trash\u2019s Theme also from SSQ, the great \u201cSurfin\u2019 Dead\u201d from The Cramps, \u201cDead Beat Dance\u201d from The Damned, and, my personal favorite, the film\u2019s now iconic theme song: \u201cParty Time\u201d from 45 Grave.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Lost Boys (1987)
\n<\/strong>Joel Schumacher\u2019s horror comedy is famed for its great soundtrack which helps enhance an already great film. The soundtrack is only one of the many things I love about \u201cThe Lost Boys.\u201d Among the great tracks there\u2019s \u201cWalk This Way\u201d from Aerosmith and Run DMC, the film\u2019s theme song \u201cCry Little Sister\u201d from Gerard McMahon, the cover of \u201cPeople are Strange\u201d from Echo and the Bunnymen, \u201cLost in the Shadows\u201d from Lou Gramm, and of course \u201cI Still Believe\u201d from Tim Cappello.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The Crow (1994)
\n<\/strong>Along with the great score by Graeme Revell, \u201cThe Crow\u201d is another film complimented by the wonderful soundtrack. Since much of the film is steeped in industrial rock and gothic rock, there are a slew of great rock and roll tunes that just screams the 90\u2019s. Just to name a few, there\u2019s \u201cDead Souls\u201d from Nine Inch Nails, \u201cThe Badge\u201d from Pantera, \u201cBurn\u201d from The Cure (which plays during Eric Draven\u2019s ultimate transformation in to The Crow), and of course \u201cBig Empty,\u201d from the Stone Temple Pilots, which was featured prominently in the movie\u2019s trailers, and became a hit single from the group.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

28 Days Later (2003)
\n<\/strong>Danny Boyle\u2019s science fiction horror film is a film that mixes its score and music beautifully to help emphasize some key moments in the film. It\u2019s such an influential soundtrack that many horror movies would borrow from. There\u2019s the great \u201cTaxi (Ave Maria),\u201d the great \u201cIn Paradisum,\u201d Grandaddy\u2019s \u201cA.M. 180,\u201d the upbeat pop tune that plays during the groups raid of an abandoned market, \u201cIn the House\u2014In a Heartbeat\u201d which would be used and re-used by a ton of horror fodder in the early aughts. My personal favorite is the closing theme song \u201cThe Season Song\u201d from Blue States, a perfect capper to such a grueling film.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Shaun of the Dead (2004)
\n<\/strong>Since \u201cShaun of the Dead\u201d is a movie about Gen X\u2019ers by Gen X\u2019ers, the soundtrack is comprised mainly of eighties music and it\u2019s filled with some absolute bangers. There\u2019s the raucous \u201cCan\u2019t Stop Me Now\u201d and \u201cYou\u2019re My Best Friend\u201d from Queen, \u201cWhite Lines\u201d from Melle Mel which is used in a hilarious context, there\u2019s a great remix of \u201cThe Gonk\u201d from \u201cDawn of the Dead\u201d featured in the closing credits, \u201cPanic\u201d from The Smiths, and of course \u201cGhost Town\u201d from The Specials, which opens the film. It\u2019s just such a great list of pop and hip hop that becomes its own character by the end of the film.<\/p>\n
