Then thanks to uproar from the hardcore comic, Superman, and Scooby-Doo fan bases, “Scooby-Doo! and Krypto, Too!” was thankfully saved and thrown in to the already massive library of “Scooby-Doo” movies. This was of course put over in to the straight to home media market where Hanna Barbera’s cash cow rests comfortably. But that’s not at all a slight, as “Scooby-Doo! and Krypto, Too!” is a very good mixing of the crime fighting mutt, and Superman’s poochy pal.

The world’s greatest heroes, DC’s Justice League, have mysteriously vanished and a terrifying phantom has taken up residence in The Hall of Justice. Now it’s up to the world’s greatest super sleuths, Scooby and the gang, to solve the mystery and save our heroes…with a little help from their new pal Krypto the Superdog.

“Scooby-Doo! and Krypto, Too!” isn’t the best of the Scooby-Doo library but by virtue of being connected to Superman, I think it’s pretty fun all things considered. As seems to be the formula, the writers and animators include a lot of Easter eggs for comic book fans and have fun teasing the appearance of the trio of superheroes. Only Superman appears for twenty seconds, while The Flash makes a voiceless cameo. Sorry DC buffs. Nevertheless, “Scooby-Doo! and Krypto, Too!” has a good tie taking Krypto (for the life of me I can’t find who voices Krypto) and teaming him with Scooby Doo, both forming something of a friendship that’s charming. And it’s interesting to see that in this universe, Scooby-Doo and Superman basically are in the same continuity.

Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen basically take center stage playing sleuths when the Justice League mysteriously vanish from the Halls of Justice. Tara Strong and James Arnold Taylor are very good as the respective pair playing them in what sound like throwbacks to Dana Delaney and David Kaufman’s portrayals in “Superman: The Animated Series.” Obviously emphasizing that idea is Charles Halford doing an obvious impersonation of Clancy Brown’s version of Lex Luthor. “Scooby-Doo! and Krypto, Too!” is a fine comedy adventure with an interesting mystery, and some fun gags that drop the Mystery Machine gag smack in the middle of the DC Universe.

The voice cast for the Scooby gang is as good as always including Frank Welker as Fred and Scooby, Matthew Lillard, Kate Miccuci, and Grey DeLisle, respectively. At a breezy eighty minutes, “Scooby-Doo! and Krypto, Too!” is a fine addition to the “Scooby-Doo” movie universe. Hopefully Krypto returns soon.

The Special Features for the DVD includes three bonus Episodes of “Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?” There’s “One Minute Mysteries!” guest Starring The Flash, “The Scooby of a Thousand Faces!” guest starring Wonder Woman, and finally “What a Night, for a Dark Knight!” where the gang pairs with their old pal Batman.

Available Digitally on most major platforms, and is now on DVD only at Walmart.

Warner Bros. killed it and decided to throw it away, never to really be seen.
