Written and directed by Rakefet Abergel, this short film is a drama horror film that is strong on the emotions and definitely made to hit hard. It will hit harder on some more than others, but no one should be left untouched after watching it. The film is one that is subtle in parts, but also a bit more obvious once one knows what is going on. The writing is strong here and the direction is solid, it\u2019s clear that Abergel is very close to the material and wants to say something with this short. Something that comes through loud and clear, giving viewers a film that is emotional, raw, and visceral. This is a personal project, and it shows, which is something that is a great aspect of the film here. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The cast here is minimalist with Abergel taking on the lead and the bulk of the acting throughout the run time. Her work is once again raw and emotional, fitting the script and the story, giving the viewers a look into motherhood interrupted and the pain it brings. Her performance here connects the film with its human-side, bringing the viewer into something that feels almost like they shouldn\u2019t not be seeing, getting them to feel the film almost as much as the lead is feeling her loss. The film introduces Cooper Tiberius Eakins as Jacob, the baby at the center of the story and, well, as much as he is just present as a little tot, he\u2019s adorable and just perfect as much as a baby\u2019s performance can be. Rachae Thomas and Cena Abergel have smaller roles and do the most with them, fitting well within the film and its emotional connection. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The film here is not only well-written, well-directed, and well-acted, it\u2019s shot beautifully to bring the viewer into it and keep them involved even once things get uncomfortable, allowing the story to unfold and allowing the important emotions at the center of everything to shine and come through. The cinematography by Sophia Cacciola works perfectly with everything here. Accompanying the story and images is music by Catherine Capozzi that works just as well as the cinematography, allowing the emotions to come throughout without overdoing it, giving the story room to shine while assisting it in pulling at the heart strings.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Still is an emotionally raw and powerful film that approaches a subject too often hushed in film and in society, pregnancy loss. The film is written and directed with care, with its creator also taking the lead to make sure everything is as close to perfect as possible. It\u2019s a short film that packs an emotional punch and one that may be hard for some to watch. The horror aspect of things is almost secondary to everything else, being used to add to the main themes and emotions.
