It’s not often the heart and enthusiasm for a genre can carry over in to an indie production. “Sins of the Dragon” is obviously made by people who have a love for the martial arts and action genre, and thankfully they turn that love in to an entertaining and very creative short fantasy thriller about redemption, and traveling warriors.<\/p>\n
Director Joey Corpora makes good use of the film’s minimal budget and limited scenery restricting most of the action to a scenic wooded area that induces the film’s sense of fantasy. Shannon Lee Haines and Cale Sweeney play two traveling warriors Cunri and Kaia, villagers left alive from the blood soaked rampage of an evil assassin seeking the powers of “Dragon” masters, all of whom embody supernatural powers. Cunri is the lone survivor of the assassin’s quest, and now seeks to destroy him. Kaia, however, is intent on convincing him the journey will take him nowhere except the dark side. The film is directed with a very dynamic sense of style with the action scenes set up with tight editing, and pacing that work well for the story.<\/p>\n
The choreography is spirited and often damn good with the performers adding a sense of energy to their battles with ninjas and random bandits. Lee Haines and Sweeney provide very enthusiastic performances, offering interesting depth to their characters, and making their heroes individuals we can root and care for. Surely, the film looks like it was filmed on a small budget, but that only adds to the charm of the fantasy, giving the director and writer chance to leave out filler and stick to the important plot points that help advance the film’s conflict and turmoil. “Sins of the Dragon” is a very exciting and unique love letter to the martial arts genre, and I hope to see more from the Platypus Underground production crew soon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
