The film has a whole feels very much like a cohesive one, like all these stories take place in the same universe, almost inseparable while being very much their own. The film as a whole is engrossing and fascinating, some of it for darker reasons than the rest. It’s the kind of film that grabs you visually and keeps you involved with what is going on in the stories and on the screen. This is a very strong anthology film with excellent writing and direction.

The cast here is sublime, giving performances that are as fascinating as the stories they evolve in. The work here is superb and shows the exact amount of emotion, restraint, and nuance to make the film shine through its entire run time. The cast is one that is hard to point out partially due to a lack in remember the character names unfortunately on this viewer’s part while being entranced into the film. The cast as a whole is more than solid, they all bring their A game and make the most out of their parts, leaving the viewer connected to each of them in one way or another.

The cinematography by Akiko Ashizawa helps connect each story by keeping a unified look for them, a quality of image with good, calculated framing and careful lighting that makes the whole film come together in just the right way.

Rampo Noir is a fascinating exercise in cinema, one that is worth checking out at least a few times to catch all the details and marvel in its imagery.

This new re-release of Rampo Noir looks and sounds great on Blu-ray with a ton of extras to keep fans busy exploring more about this film and its stories. The extras that should be of main interest to those really into films and filmmaking are the six interviews with the various directors, writers, and a cinematographer. These interviews are brand new and filled with information on the film. The archival footage of the directors and some of the cast at the world premiere is quite fun to check out. The documentary “Crossing the Lens” by Tatsuya Fukushima from 2006 is also a worthy extra on this release. The commentary here is by film experts and none of the writers and directors are present which is a bit of personal frustration with commentaries of late.

[4
349,477,824
post-46487","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-collectors-den","tag-fantasy","tag-horror","tag-re-release
["GET
