To start, please introduce yourself:
\n<\/strong>My name is Josi Kat, and I\u2019m from Los Angeles.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

What is horror to you? What defines the genre?
\n<\/span><\/strong>Horror taps into primal fears\u2014vulnerability, loss of control, darkness, the monstrous, and, of course, death. It can take many forms\u2014supernatural, psychological mindf*cks, fear of the unknown, or graphic gore.<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m drawn to horror that\u2019s both terrifying and visually stunning. Coppola\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Dracula<\/span>\u00a0stands out with its seductive cast, gothic set design, baroque costumes, and practical effects.\u00a0<\/span>The Cell <\/span>mesmerized me with its high-fashion costume design and cinematography inspired by Salvador Dal\u00ed and H.R. Giger. And then there\u2019s Kubrick\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>The Shining<\/span>\u2014a true work of art.<\/span><\/p>\n

What inspired you to work in horror?
\n<\/span><\/strong>As a kid, my mom would drop me off to Sunday matinees of\u00a0<\/span>Abbott & Costello<\/span>\u00a0films. Those two were always getting into shenanigans with classic monsters. Other childhood favorites were\u00a0<\/span>The Munsters<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Elvira\u2019s Movie Macabre<\/span>. Elvira\u2019s hilarious critiques of low-budget horror had me hooked.<\/span><\/p>\n

The first film that truly terrified me?\u00a0<\/span>The Exorcist<\/span>. As a kid, it scared the hell out of me.<\/span><\/p>\n

At 19, I became one of Haunted Garage\u2019s original Gore-Gore dancers, pulling me deep into the horror scene, working alongside FX great Johnny Saiko and\u00a0<\/span>The Monster Man<\/span>\u00a0himself, Cleve Hall.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I was a Tromette for Troma Films, which eventually leading to a decade of red carpet hosting, festival judging (<\/span>Shriekfest<\/span>), and acting in lots of fun indie horror films.<\/span><\/p>\n

A highlight was performing with Haunted Garage at\u00a0<\/span>Fangoria<\/span>\u2014meeting the legendary Stephen King and hanging out backstage with Elvira. \ud83d\udda4\ud83e\udd87<\/span><\/p>\n

What legacy do you hope to leave?
\n<\/span><\/strong>I love connecting people and fostering a sense of community in the industry. I hope my legacy is one of collaboration, friendship, and lifting others up.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why is Women in Horror Month (WiHM) important?
\n<\/span><\/strong>WiHM shines a light on women in horror, creating more opportunities both on and off-screen. It inspires female creators and highlights their impact on the genre.<\/span><\/p>\n

Which Women in Horror do you admire?
\n<\/span><\/strong>Jamie Lee Curtis\u2014the original Scream Queen.<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019d love to introduce legendary producer Gale Anne Hurd (<\/span>The Terminator, Aliens, The Walking Dead<\/span>) to the incredible all-female crew members I\u2019ve met through\u00a0<\/span>Women In Media<\/span>(WIM) and\u00a0<\/span>Cinefemme<\/span>. These organizations are doing amazing work for women in the industry.<\/span><\/p>\n

What are you currently working on?
\n<\/span><\/strong>Recently wrapped Mahal Empire\u2019s scifi film <\/span>Alien Horde\u00a0<\/span>as a prop master which was different.<\/span><\/p>\n

We just won a\u00a0<\/span>Film Threat<\/span>\u00a0award for\u00a0<\/span>Death Bitch<\/span>, where I played a hooker with a heart\u2014very different from my upcoming role as the unhinged Auntie Deb in\u00a0<\/span>The Meathook Massacre<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Next week, I start filming\u00a0<\/span>Death Park<\/span>, where I play a badass bounty hunter.<\/span><\/p>\n

My passion project is my documentary\u00a0<\/span>How the Hell Did I Get Here?<\/span>, where I traveled the world interviewing expats about life in a foreign land.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
