Swirnoff, this film is composed of a bunch of vignettes, most of them absolutely unfunny and just badly aged. The humor of the mid-1970s does not translate well to modern audiences and the format here is more annoying than innovative (which is kind of was back when it was released). The writing here is truncated and leads to unfinished thoughts and feels very much like someone truly bored by what they are watching is constantly switching stations on an old antenna television, you know the one hidden in the basement built into a large wood piece of furniture and gets only a few channels. The film may be about a single television station, but it feels like switching the station every few minutes to the effect of just not getting into whatever it is the film is trying to tell as a story. There is a ton here and most of it doesn’t land. The fact that John Candy showing up for 10 seconds is a highlight of the film is very telling.

The cast here is present. Yes, that seems like the obvious thing to say, but as most of them do not get enough screen time to make any sort of impression, the most that can be said is that they are there. Spotting John Candy was a highlight and now getting verification that Chevy Chase is in this movie led to wondered how he was completely forgotten as the credits roll because zero memory of his presence in the film was retained. Checking the full cast list for Tunnel Vision shows that a ton of people were involved here and well, it just doesn’t really work as most of them are completely forgotten, like Mr. Chase, as soon as the film, or worse as soon as their scenes, end. There is a lot here, none of it makes sense really, and the humor does the cast no favor.

In terms of the film’s look, it looks aged, it looks like it is indeed from 1976 even though it’s supposed to be from 1985. The look is quite “old tv that doesn’t have cable” and the antenna look is ok here and there, but for a whole movie, it becomes annoying fast. Same applies to the editing of each sketch or scene into the randomatron that is the film doesn’t do much to help matters.

While some will absolutely love this film or did when they first saw it, this comedy predecessor to the V/H/S film franchise is not all that entertaining, the humor falls flat, and the style gets old much before the runtime finds its way to the end. While there is something here, it’s just not hitting right at this point in time.

As for the new release from MVD Rewind, it looks as good as a 4k of a television feed from the 1970s (or 1980s) can look. The image quality isn’t terrible and the sound quality works with the images, but this is not something meant to be upgraded to 4k which it is here. There are extras here and the more interesting ones of the bunch are the interview with Neal Israel, the radio spots for the film, and the Tunnel Vision continuity script. Also included in here are a commentary, two photo galleries, and a theatrical trailer. The physical release has reversible artwork, a mini-poster, and a slipcover for the first pressing only. There is enough here to interest film collectors for sure as MVD Rewind gave the film a treatment better than its content.

Available now from MVD Rewind An uncensored television station from the future sees its content analyzed by the government.

[4
219,824
post-47839","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-collectors-den","tag-comedy","tag-re-release
["GET
