Written by Omar\u00a0Elhanbouly\u00a0and Robert Firth with the former also directing, this short film puts a lot of effective storytelling and emotions in\u00a0the short run time\u00a0allotted\u00a0here.\u00a0The writing here is\u00a0careful\u00a0and calculated, made to illicit a reaction along with the lead who is living the story.\u00a0The characters are not\u00a0numerous, so it gives the lead and the few others more room to be and to evolve, giving\u00a0the lead the most screen time and\u00a0focusing\u00a0on his emotions was the right move here.\u00a0The direction here is also careful, giving characters room to be, room to show how they feel, and room to grab the viewer, especially the lead. The film has a good flow of story and makes the most of its short run time while also showing that a short run time can be an advantage\u00a0when used correctly.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The cast here is small with five people credited on IMDb including 2 who are voices and not seen.\u00a0Playing the lead is writer-director\u00a0Omar Elhanbouly who says\u00a0very little\u00a0and shows\u00a0a whole world\u00a0of emotions on his face as the story develops: stress, uncertainty, sadness, etc.\u00a0He\u2019s\u00a0solid here and makes the most of his screen time. Joining him are\u00a0Robert Firth as David\/Raffi and Miguel Angel Plaza as Paco, both are strong supporting performers and while they hold their own, they are here to support the lead and\u00a0it is clear that they\u00a0kow\u00a0this. The voice cast shows Adei Bundy as Mandy and Anna Tammela as\u00a0Lexi,\u00a0both of them do well here as well. The rest of the cast\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0listed online, but there are a few other people here and there, all of whom give more than decent performances.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0look of the film here works well with the story with cinematography by Ziad\u00a0Abdelbasit\u00a0which lets the viewer see the locations and set design quite well. The scenes in the dressing room are fantastically well lit and well shot. The film here has a few\u00a0moments\u00a0where the camera shakes a little\u00a0but\u00a0generally, the\u00a0look is solid and works great for the story.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Eyelashes is an emotional short film that should be\u00a0sought\u00a0for those who love short films and even for those who\u00a0aren\u2019t\u00a0all that familiar with the format. It is one of those short films that is perfect in that format and shows that not all stories need 90 minutes or\u00a0long run time.\u00a0It\u2019s well-written, well-directed, with strong performances, so it feels like it\u2019s less than 5 minutes long (when it\u2019s definitely longer).\u00a0This is one solid short film that makes the viewer feel and think.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
