Each year, the shorts included are fantastic with past titles including Freya<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW248814585 BCX0\">, Lucid,<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW248814585 BCX0\">\u00a0and Creswick (which later became The Relic),<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW248814585 BCX0\">\u00a0short films that have stayed in the mind clearer than most others. A<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW248814585 BCX0\">t<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW248814585 BCX0\">\u00a0Cinema-Crazed<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW248814585 BCX0\">, we are big supporters of Women in Horror and\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW248814585 BCX0\">showcase<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW248814585 BCX0\">\u00a0their work whenever we can and go extra hard in March (the interviews should be coming back next March, keep your eyes peeled for them). So, any chance to see a group of shorts made by women and carefully curated is always\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW248814585 BCX0\">a good day. Writer-director Pola Rader\u00a0creates the kind of short film that grabs you visually and then punches you in the face with the reality of life, one that is affecting everyone these days it seems. Her work here is solid with great cinematography, colors that make it feel like a painting at times, and\u00a0editing that moves things along quickly while lingering on just the right shots. The young lead actor is fantastic here.\u00a0A very strong\u00a0opener for this year\u2019s group.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Angels\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Angels.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-54154 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Angels-300x153.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"998\" height=\"509\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Angels-300x153.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Angels-1024x522.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Angels-768x392.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Angels-1536x783.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Angels-2x1.jpg 2w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Angels.jpg 1998w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 998px) 100vw, 998px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">Two girls getting ready for a party encounter people and events that expose their vulnerability and that of women everywhere. This short written by Annabel Newland and directed by\u00a0Sam Mandich is one that is a bit rough but necessary, it shows the reality, the risks, the vulnerability of girls and women when going out, here heightened by alcohol consumption, with one friend pushing the other a bit too far for comfort. The film here does not hold back or gloss things up. The reality is shown, the reality is rough, and the\u00a0reality is real.\u00a0The\u00a0actresses\u00a0leading this short film, Nuha Jes Izman and Sirena Warren (frustrating note IMDB has the male supporting cast listed before them), give excellent performances, showing vulnerability, fear, strength, and so much more.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sam\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Sam.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-54153 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Sam.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1001\" height=\"666\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Sam.jpg 275w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Sam-2x1.jpg 2w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1001px) 100vw, 1001px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">Directed by Catharina Sch\u00fcrenberg, Sam shows the effects of social media comments on a young woman who dared to show an ounce of vulnerability by posting a bit of a story with an ex. This one will hit home for many as the negativity of some commenters on social media is hard to avoid (even outside of social media, like this site where we can thankfully\u00a0delete\u00a0the hateful comments).\u00a0This short is incredibly well-made and shows the cycle of online abuse by strangers very well with a great performance by its lead\u00a0actress\u00a0and good cinematography. Everything is careful, well\u00a0almost everything, some of the sound design is a bit much, but this may very well be planned this way for effect.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Imprint\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Imprint.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-54152 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Imprint-300x180.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Imprint-300x180.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Imprint-768x461.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Imprint-2x1.jpg 2w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Imprint.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">Should you, if you could, engineer the perfect life for your child if you could? Even at the detriment of another person?\u00a0Co-written by Yumiko Fujiwara and Ran Jing and directed by the latter, this short is fascinating in that it feels like a\u00a0not-too-distant\u00a0future when parents will be able to buy entire skills for their children and have them implanted, a future where knowledge becomes the domain of those who can afford it.\u00a0This short film has a strong impact in\u00a0large\u00a0part due to its subject, how it is approached, the writing, the direction, and very importantly the performances. Wrenn Schmidt is fantastic\u00a0here,\u00a0and she really pulls the viewer in as the well-meaning mother who may not have thought of the aftermath of\u00a0what\u00a0she is doing for her daughter, the donor, and even herself. This one is one to watch that has a strong grip on reality and science-fiction at the same time. This feels like a\u00a0not-too-distant time\u00a0from\u00a0us,\u00a0and that makes it scarier than anything else at the fest this year.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Strange Egg\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Strange-Egg.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-54151 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Strange-Egg-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1001\" height=\"751\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Strange-Egg-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Strange-Egg-1x1.jpg 1w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Strange-Egg.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1001px) 100vw, 1001px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">A girl goes back to her mom\u2019s place after visiting her father. Soon, things take a turn for the strange as she showers. Set in the 1990s, this family body horror coming of age film is one that takes the\u00a0hard realities of being a teenage girl, mixes them with divorced parents, and adds a touch of the WTF to make a whole that is entertaining and a bit gross. The writing and direction by Liv Mershon\u00a0are on\u00a0point,\u00a0and the performances are solid.\u00a0What sticks in mind the most here is the way the effects look on screen, effects that look to be 100% practical and definitely designed to irk the viewer out.\u00a0There is something said here about\u00a0bizarre puberty can be for girls, something that will\u00a0likely only\u00a0(or mostly) connect with women. This is a gooey one and it\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0make any qualms about it.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Breeder\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Breeder.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-54150 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Breeder-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1005\" height=\"566\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Breeder-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Breeder-2x1.jpg 2w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Breeder.jpg 596w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1005px) 100vw, 1005px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">Unsure if she wants children, a woman finds herself faced with\u00a0a horseman\u00a0creature\u00a0when it\u00a0comes into her home with nefarious intent. Written and directed by Sapphire Sandalo, Breeder is a punch to the face\u00a0about\u00a0women\u2019s rights to decide if they do or do not want children in a society that still sees it as their\u00a0responsibility\u00a0to do so. The writing here is\u00a0possibly the\u00a0best part of\u00a0a very strong\u00a0film on all fronts. The story here takes its time,\u00a0establishes\u00a0tension, then\u00a0releases this tension in a gruesome way.\u00a0Pairing the acting by Kristine Gerolaga with the monster acting of Taylor Bradley, the film gets its point across with few words and some violence.\u00a0The special effects here are fantastic with a monster design that is both simple (body) and effective (head). This is one that could become a feature but\u00a0likely should\u00a0stay a short as it makes\u00a0a big impact\u00a0without a long run time.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>The New Flesh (O Novo Corpo)\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/The-New-Flesh.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-54149 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/The-New-Flesh-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"560\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/The-New-Flesh-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/The-New-Flesh-2x1.jpg 2w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/The-New-Flesh.jpg 739w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">A woman on farm, women in captivity, a new sort of milk and meat, is this the future? The New Flesh is\u00a0almost completely\u00a0without words, showing that strong acting can move a film\u00a0forward,\u00a0and that dialog is not always needed to tell a story. Here, this is something that not only serves the story but makes sense once the reveal happens. Writer-director Luciana Malavasi\u00a0takes\u00a0a subject that has been growing in society and turns it on its head, giving\u00a0her film a touch of\u00a0scifi\u00a0and a whole lot of horror. The writing and direction here are masterful and the acting is emotionally loaded. Shot to let the viewer see and interpret the situation for themselves, assuming they can understand instead of assuming they cannot,\u00a0the film comes off like a dark\u00a0fairly tale\u00a0that wants to tell you something.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0up to you to understand and accept it.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Redneck\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Redneck.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-54148 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Redneck-300x158.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1004\" height=\"529\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Redneck-300x158.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Redneck-2x1.jpg 2w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Redneck.jpg 617w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1004px) 100vw, 1004px\" \/><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">What if redheads stealing souls was not just an urban legend but a curse and part of folklore? Written and directed by Alexandria Basso and starring Annalise Basso, this Southern dark tale is one that is visually stunning at times, filled with atmosphere, but ultimately one that did not connect with this viewer. The film looks and sounds great, the acting is really good, but something is missing, so perhaps it\u2019s something in the writing or direction, or maybe it was too melodramatic at times or too meandering from horror into romance, something that will work great for some but not at all for this viewer.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Fingerbang\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Fingerbang.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-54147 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Fingerbang-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1001\" height=\"564\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Fingerbang-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Fingerbang-2x1.jpg 2w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Fingerbang.jpg 596w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1001px) 100vw, 1001px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">The only animation short part of Born of Women this year comes from Kim Yeon-woo and follows a woman who, in her loneliness, befriends a\u00a0sentient finger. The more time she spends with it, the more it grows, and soon it is love. This short film has a distinctive look\u00a0to\u00a0it that feels homemade and old school, giving it\u00a0charm\u00a0to go with its odd premise.\u00a0The animation here is lovely, the subject matter is interesting, and\u00a0the story\u00a0moves in a way that is easy to follow. Another case of\u00a0very little\u00a0dialog working wonders.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0the kind of short films people go to film festivals for, something out of the ordinary that somehow makes sense and\u00a0connects\u00a0with the audience on an emotional level.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Fantasia 2026 runs from July 16th to August 2nd, 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For a few years now, Fantasia has been doing a showcase of short film directed by women.
