Written by\u00a0Devon Ka-Hang Choi,\u00a0Siu-Hong Ho,\u00a0Ka Hei Kwok,\u00a0Jack Chun-Kit Lee, and\u00a0Ka-Ching Yung, and directed by\u00a0Ka Hei Kwok and\u00a0Jack Chun-Kit Lee, Unidentified Murder, or U.F.O. Unidentified Murder as some of its artwork shows, is a fun mess of a film. It starts in one style, moves to another, has some major tonal shifts (that last sequence feels like it belongs in another movie), and somehow it all makes sense. This is a film that feels like\u00a0it’s\u00a0working hard to keep my ADHD brain\u00a0involved,\u00a0which\u00a0isn’t\u00a0a bad thing\u00a0here but\u00a0will\u00a0definitely not\u00a0work for everyone.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The cast here is fun with\u00a0performances that are quirky in their own way. Unfortunately, the cast list on IMDb only has one photo and no character names, so telling you all who did what and who did best is going to be impossible with their\u00a0actual names,\u00a0so\u00a0we’ll\u00a0go with characters. Lead lady is the only lady for the majority of the run\u00a0time,\u00a0and she’s fun to watch evolve, giving a mix of demure yet determined, innocent yet\u00a0cunning;\u00a0she creates a full character and makes her more than the token\u00a0lady of the film.\u00a0The guys are more\u00a0numerous\u00a0and varied in character. The actor playing the actor they hire for the prank may be the most interesting of\u00a0all\u00a0the\u00a0performance-wise.\u00a0He’s\u00a0giving a performance within a\u00a0performance\u00a0and makes it all look easy, giving the film\u00a0its backbone throughout all the nonsense.\u00a0The rest of the cast works decently well in their respective roles, giving the audience more to chew on as they watch all the insanity go down.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>There is also no credit that can easily be found for the cinematography, so shout out to the person or persons who shot this, the images are interesting, the different styles work together decently, but some of them make you wonder if they were all really necessary.\u00a0The darker scenes and sequences, in the woods in particular, work great and let you see that is going on with careful use of lighting.\u00a0Those scenes with the big light (it will be clear upon watching the film)\u00a0are just a bunch of fun, adding a great element to the film’s nonsense.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And yes, this film is pure nonsense and\u00a0it’s\u00a0fantastic. Who would have thought that a film about an influencer who does\u00a0pranks\u00a0for their audience would be this fun? Not this viewer. Overall, there are some issues here and there with the story, but the cast makes\u00a0up for it. The nonsense is celebrated while the viewer can follow the story through it all. A sold entry in the “influencers as film subject”\u00a0genre and in the\u00a0“aliens may have been\u00a0involved”\u00a0genre.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
