Directed by Harrison Buck, this short format documentary is one that gives unrestricted access to a family by way of the mom and son while they deal with their day to day lives that include working with the son’s disabilities. The film\u00a0is direct and allows the mom, who the film is named after,\u00a0takes\u00a0center stage while talking about her son, his needs, how it has\u00a0impacted\u00a0the family, and so much more.\u00a0This leads to an interesting short\u00a0form\u00a0documentary that should touch anyone watching it. The direction is simple here, letting the subject matter take the spotlight without any fluff or anything extra that could have distracted from the subject.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Cinematographer Matteo Moretti understood what the film needed here and just let the interviews and the\u00a0real-life\u00a0sequences take the lead and dictate the style. There\u00a0isn’t\u00a0much dramatic\u00a0flair\u00a0or particularly fancy filming\u00a0here as the subject did not require it. There\u00a0are some\u00a0truly beautiful\u00a0shots here and there, especially when filming on\u00a0Sugar Bush mountain\u00a0while skying, something that does really\u00a0adds\u00a0interest to the film.\u00a0Somewhere\u00a0the film could have\u00a0used\u00a0an extra pass is the editing. While the work by Billy Montross is not bad, some of the\u00a0sequences\u00a0run on a bit too long. While it’s good to give the subject room to breathe, the film comes off as having\u00a0a\u00a0pace that is a bit on the slow side and it can lose the attention here and there, something that can be fixed with a slightly more dynamic editing. While it\u00a0doesn’t\u00a0need to be edited like an action scene, the pacing feels\u00a0off,\u00a0so it leads to wondering how long is left here and there throughout the film.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>While the subject of this documentary is interesting and the film should be seen by most, it is not a watch that most would be entertained by.\u00a0The right audience will truly appreciate it and\u00a0want to learn from it, but some folks will absolutely not be interested.\u00a0The presentation is mostly\u00a0cold,\u00a0which\u00a0doesn’t\u00a0help, but\u00a0it’s\u00a0a good way\u00a0to present this subject without falling into exploitation or\u00a0sensationalism,\u00a0which is not an easy task. Overall, it is an educational short documentary, and it does well at giving\u00a0information to\u00a0its audience.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
