Mr. Creamjeans\u2019 Hidey Hole is a series of silly, sophomoric shorts. That\u2019s a good thing. The Heath Benfield film is presented as part of Fantastic Fest 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n

The movie is called Mr. Creamjeans\u2019 Hidey Hole. If you read that title and parse it, you can pretty much expect what you\u2019re going to get in tone. Sophomoric, absolutely? Filled with sex jokes and fake penises? Very much. Bounties of blood and other body fluids? Damned right. If those are your expectations, Mr. Creamjeans’ Hidey Hole will meet them with a sense of fun and gore, a homemade set of stories that tap into that part of your brain you can\u2019t quite turn off no matter how adult you want to be. Writers Josh Griffey and Jonathan Holiday and director Heath Benfield deliver on those promises with silly fun for fans of Troma<\/a>-style entertainment (and I like my Troma<\/a>). It\u2019s got a great sense of DIY chutzpah I really appreciated; getting a lot of wonderfully perverted nonsense from a little.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Creamjeans Hideyhole is a triptych of shorts with a wrap-around, and a quick starter (so 5 stories really). At about 72 minutes total, each short runs just long enough to get it going and close up without feeling overdone. I watch a lot, and I mean\u00a0 A LOT of shorts as a judge and programmer for Crypticon Seattle\u2019s Film Festival. The shorts that make up Mr. Creamjeans\u2019 Hidey Hole are the shorts we\u2019d put in the WTF or more comedic blocks with no issues; perhaps fitting in at Bone Bat Comedy of Horrors. Kudos for the quickness and for giving us what we want without overdoing it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>A quick rundown of those stories to follow (spoiler-free, of course): Lot Lizards has a bunch of scummy men at a truck stop get their bloody commuptance. It quickly sets the tone and expectations. The first main story follows a couple trying to rekindle the spark in their marriage. Well, she is; he\u2019s barely trying. A little magic and \u2026 well, she gets what she needs. There\u2019s a really awesome effect in here I dug. The second story. is one of a little too much neighborly love. A strange man, with a 50s stereotype look and behavior, is a neighbor to his crush, a touch modern woman. The neighbor, originally lusted after from afar, has an ass of a boyfriend. Our guy has an interesting roommate, too, a mummified corpse. But the corpse is no Mrs. Bates; he\u2019s active and has a special talent. Murders happen, blood sprays, the guy may get to deal with his crush, and the corpse takes on new ways. It\u2019s pretty damned funny; it wasn\u2019t quite what I expected. The third is quick, but works wonderfully as my favorite. The Snail Trailer Killer has an awesome killer design and a fantastic turn on the final girl, with a wonderfully witchy vibe within a slasher riff. For the wrap-around: a guy named Henry attends the Hidey Hole to hide his secret, while Mr. Creamjeans tells him stories based on the items inside, which of course leads to his own tale to end the film. Writer Josh Griffey plays the titular teller of tales, and he\u2019s having a blast, and so am I watching him dig into it. A horror-host vibe (of course he\u2019s telling tales, but it feels more Svengoolie here) shines through and adds a special spark.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Creamjeans’ Hidey Hole, directed by Heath Benfield, is a hilarious, ribald touch of make-your-own-damned-movie Troma-esque goodness. Never hiding the fuck-it-all attitude and the sophomoric glee, it goes for broke in gory and giggly ways.\u00a0 Best of all, and my final note: despite what one might umight think with all the dick humor and sex jokes, Mr. Creamjean\u2019s Hidey Hole is surpsiengly female fronted and friendly. The men are the assholes who don\u2019t do what they need to do and overstep and act the ass, leading to a cummupance. Hell yes.\u00a0<\/span>\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n
