Meet a relatively new actress to the field of horror, Kerry McGuire
To start, please introduce yourself:
Hi, Kerry McGuire here.
What is horror to you, what makes a work of art one in the horror genre?
I have loved horror since I was a kid, good old 80’s practical effects horror. I love gross and over the top stuff, the weirder the better.
What made you want to work in horror?
I hadn’t really ever thought of it before until Damien Leone announced his Indiegogo for Terrifier 2. I didn’t care what it cost I had to be killed by Art the Clown. I didn’t know what it would entail but it was definitely a bucket list item that I knew I wouldn’t regret doing and it was the best thing I ever did, just a great time on set.
Where do you get your inspiration?
I love the horror community and I’ve met some really great people and I love supporting their projects and campaigns. So, if they have opportunities to help and get bloody on screen, I’ve kind of gotten addicted to it.
What would you like your legacy to be in the genre (or elsewhere)?
Hmmm never really thought about that … I guess that if you are interested in something or even introverted or scared to do it. Just do it. You only live once might as well have fun and getting to be a part of horror movie history is pretty rad.
What is Women in Horror Month to you and why is it still important this many years later?
There are so many great actresses and female role models out there to celebrate and even though I will never be even a tiny bit what these women are, it’s cool to be a small part of it.
Who are some of the Women in Horror who you look up to and who do you want to bring attention to in your field or others?
The Soska sisters, Barbara Crampton, Eileen Dietz, Felissa Rose, Lauren LaVera all of them are just amazing actresses with iconic roles.
What are you currently working on that you can tell us about?
Oooooh, some good stuff. The Dead Place starring David Howard Thornton and Idris Veliu by Michael Pickle is about a kid who sees ghosts everywhere. It’s in post-production should be out later this year. Desert Fiends by Shawn Phillips stars Tom Arnold, Scout Taylor Compton, Brett Wagner is a Hills Have Eyes, Wrong Turn comedy horror movie also in post-production due out this year. A Hard Place by Jason Horton just started filming I’ll be a zombie in the opening scene. Also Skate to Hell by Shawn Phillips will start filming in April, it will be an 80’s horror comedy as well. There are lots of really amazing great people in all these movies. Lots of blood, gore and fun all of them.
