Special Effects Artist Nichole De Livid Interview [Women in Horror Month 2025]

Meet Special Effects Artist Nichole De Livid:

To start, please introduce yourself:
I’m Nichole De livid
What is horror to you, what makes a work of art one in the horror genre?
Horror for me is the emotions provoked while watching the experience given. If it can keep my attention while making me feel uneasy and scared, highlighting how fragile life is while maintaining originality and ambiance, that makes a work of art for me.
What made you want to work in horror?
I’ve been into horror since childhood. When I was 7 my favorite movie was Poltergeist, I’ve always been drawn to the darker side of things. so, it was only natural to create and be in horror.
Where do you get your inspiration?
The early 2000s faceoff TV show inspired me to start SFX makeup. Nowadays, I get most of my inspiration from the online horror and haunted house community.
What would you like your legacy to be in the genre (or elsewhere)?
Special effects makeup is what I want my legacy to be. The ability to create a believable illusion in real time amazes me.
What is Women in Horror Month to you and why is it still important this many years later?
It highlights women on and off camera and showcases many talented women who might never have gotten that opportunity and that will always remain important.
Who are some of the Women in Horror who you look up to and who do you want to bring attention to in your field or others?
Simply  Beverly Thomas ( Spooky Kisses)
What are you currently working on that you can tell us about?
I recently did some makeup work on a music video for the band,  Mephisto Odyssey song Crash Reborn featuring Static X. It will Be released this year.
