Amy Crabtree is one of the biggest supporters of indie horror, her work is often to prop up other creators, so let’s give her the spotlight today.
To start, please introduce yourself:
Hello! I’m Amy Crabtree. Independent Horror film producer/ promoter/ actress. And most importantly a massive horror film fan.
What is horror to you, what makes a work of art one in the horror genre?
For me horror can be anything. Everything from a slasher, found footage, or a disturbing true story. If it causes me to be disturbed it’s horror.
What made you want to work in horror?
Ever since I was 7 years old. I watched the Alfred Hitchcock classic “Psycho”. ( Without my parents permission. Lol) The exhilaration that I felt. Especially having to do with how the terrifying special effects were created… That was it. I was hooked on horror and films in general. And have been ever since.
Where do you get your inspiration?
So many different places. Especially strong dedicated women in horror. My Mother is also an inspiration. She got me interested in Stephen King novels and mysteries.
What would you like your legacy to be in the genre (or elsewhere)?
That’s a great question. I honestly would rather have the filmmakers that I promote and believe in to be remembered more than me personally. There are so many incredibly talented independent filmmakers out there. I want everyone to know about them.
What is Women in Horror Month to you and why is it still important this many years later?
Women in Horror month is very special. I’m so glad to see that women are being recognized for the hard work they do in horror. I’m so proud of all my fellow horror sisters.
Who are some of the Women in Horror who you look up to and who do you want to bring attention to in your field or others?
So many. My late friend actress and model, Liane Langford inspired me so very much. She’s still my muse. Jennifer Nangle is another spectacular filmmaker and actress that I look up to.
What are you currently working on that you can tell us about?
We just wrapped up filming for “Scream Dream”. I’m a producer on the project. Starring Adam Freeman, Steve McGill, Erin Brown, Debbie Dutch, Jason Crowe and Roni Jonah. It’s in post-production now and we are all so stoked for everyone to see it!
I was very honored to be a part of a documentary about disabled horror creatives in the industry. Directed by Cindy Sanabria. It’s called “Horror Able Women”. It’s available for purchase on Bloodstainedfilms.com . This project was a very special one near and dear to my heart since I am disabled.
More projects are on the horizon. Keep an eye out!
