Any Last Words podcaster Jo Gonsalves [Women in Horror Month 2022]

Any Last Words podcaster Jo Gonsalves is a creative machine in the horror genre.

Please introduce yourself:
My name is Jo Gonsalves and I live in Southern California. I’m an actress, model, director, and podcast host of “Any Last Words”.

What is it that attracts you the horror genre for your chosen field of creative work?
I grew up on horror. Everyone in my family loved watching horror movies and tv shows as far back as I can remember. My birthday is the day after Halloween, so that made dark and creepy things that much better.

Who inspires you in your work and in life?
My partner. He’s very hard working, motivated, and goal oriented. I like having that in a partner. He’s always been supportive of me and what I do.

What are your passions, cinematic or otherwise?
Over all just being an entertainer. But music has always been my biggest passion. I sing and play several instruments. I grew up in a house of musicians.

Considering this is 2022, why do you think we still need a movement like Women in Horror Month?
One day I hope this won’t be something we need. Don’t get me wrong, it’s needed. But one day I hope we all are equally on the same page, male or female. Till then, we have to keep lifting one another up. A lot of women are still not being taken seriously or taken advantage of, because we are female.

What would you tell an up-and-coming creative in the world of horror who sees that being a woman/identifying as a woman as something that makes it so much more difficult at times?
Stay true to yourself and surround yourself with likeminded people. If something doesn’t work out don’t be discouraged. There’s always something else out there better.

What are your favorite bits of helpful advice that you have received about your work or your field?
To not worry about what everyone else is doing. A lot of times we get stuck in this Tiktok mode and everyone ends up over saturating with the same topics or ideas. Just do what you want and what interests you. There will always be an audience for it.

In honor of celebrating Women in Horror Month, who do you believe viewers should keep an eye on in terms of the creative ladies in horror?
Me, haha. I’m not one to limit myself, so I’m going to be everywhere.

What do you have coming soon that you can talk to us about?
I was recently casted in a horror musical called “Monster Beautiful” and I’m working on more of my Christmas horror anthology “Lore”.
