Felix Vasquez Jr., the film critic and publisher of the Cinema Crazed website, passed away today at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx, New York, at the age of 41 after a brief illness.
A native of the Bronx, Felix first came to prominence as a member of the Film Threat team of critics and wrote a column on the Bloody Disgusting horror film site. He also contributed to Cinema Blend, Crave and Screen Anarchy before launching Cinema Crazed in 2005, which celebrated horror, science-fiction and cult movies.
Vasquez authored the 2023 action film history book “Super Schlock: The Weird, Wild Superheroes of the 90’s,” and he also penned the novels “The Genesis Exiles” (2015) and “Orphan Sword” (2017). He was a longtime member of the Online Film Critics Society and his writing was nominated for a Rondo Award; he also appeared on several radio shows and podcasts to discuss film trends and current releases.
Several of Felix’s reviews that were written prior to his illness will be published in the coming days.
Felix’s love for movies was invigorating, and he generously used his platforms to champion independent and underground cinema. For those of us who shared his passion for movies and for those of us who have been touched by his warmth and humor, he will be greatly missed.
