Business Owner and Creative Jane Interview [Women in Horror Month 2025]

Business owner and creative Jane:

To start, please introduce yourself:
Hi I’m Jane, owner of Scream Queen Club. I run my small spooky business between two jobs, two kitties and two doggies from home. If you dissected my jobs you can see why I love the horror genre as well. Without any specific job description I can say one can be very bloody while the other one is the narrator of the film.  Most of my merchandise is personally made by me,while some I have to mass produce from a bigger company. I have also teamed with an amazing illustrator to bring you new and fresh major designs for future projects. You can say I love being a multi-tasking entrepreneur.

What is horror to you, what makes a work of art one in the horror genre?
Horror to me means expecting the unexpected. The work of art in the horror genre can be tricking your mind into believing anything while at the same time making your heart race.
It’s like a time bomb waiting to happen, but while the waiting is in place your heart races faster and faster. Though the horror genre can elevate your heart speed, it can completely throw you a curveball full of bloody gore and be disgusting. Which is literally expecting the unexpected. It’s taking a test and questioning what you can really take. Can you take jump scares? Is there really a monster in your closet? How long can you handle the bullying before you snap and make everyone pay? Can you pretend to be the hero yet, you’re the villain. It swallows you into a world that question your senses
What made you want to work in horror?
I would say my dad was a big push in the horror direction. He would bring home horror movie rentals. He would joke and say it would be an action, comedy, cartoon, etc anything besides horror. Then I’d sit there scared out of my mind. But growing up I learned to turn that feeling of being scared into love for the horror world. I just didn’t realize how big of a genre it was until I discovered events and all the fans behind it.
Where do you get your inspiration?
My inspiration has many roots. Besides horror movies and meeting some celebrity icons. It has been from speaking and getting to know horror fans at spooky events . I try my best to listen to what they love and bring it to life into the Scream Queen Club. Whether they are a fan of Nightmare on Elm Street, Scream, Halloween, Terrifier, etc. I try to expand the icons as much as I can.
So, a lot of people don’t know this. The Scream Queen Club started as a base for those that love horror and all things spooky. My plan was to focus on several horror icons at once. Jumping to today’s day, it intrigues me that it has transformed into a base for Skeet Ulrich and Scream fans (laughs). I love everything about it and I didn’t expect it to mold into this. Which is like the horror genre as I said prior, expect the unexpected. I’m so grateful for each and everyone and all the support along with this journey.
What would you like your legacy to be in the genre (or elsewhere)?
I want people to know that I have worked hard on what I bring to the Scream Queen Club. I started my first small business under a different name in 2018. I have had plenty of failed projects in the works, I have cried when my first shows were horrible in sales, and I’ve had days when I feel like I want to give up and close shop. I want my legacy to be known that you cannot give up if you feel deep down you have a passion for what you love. You will have bad days and great days. You cannot grow without tears and hard work.
As the iconic term “Scream Queen” is a female actress who is well known for her roles in horror films. I want to be an inspiring female known for my own role in the small business world within the horror genre.
What is Women in Horror Month to you and why is it still important this many years later?
It is an icon that has been overlooked and is ready for the public eye. A thriving and unstoppable force ready for the world of horror.
Who are some of the Women in Horror who you look up to and who do you want to bring attention to in your field or others?
In the genre of horror I’m by far absorbed in independent women that end up being the final girls at the end of the movie. The women that become the “scream queens” of the film. I love the power and the fight they put up for survival. That’s what it’s all about.  To name a few; Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Shawnee Smith (SAW), Mila Jovovich (Resident Evil), Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween, Mia Goth (Pearl), Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring), etc
What are you currently working on that you can tell us about?
The current project in the works is a brand new design. I have been lucky enough to find the talented illustrator Rey Paez. We have gone through an idea design to bring to life. Which I’m hoping to get into production and be ready to release for CreepIE Con AFTERMATH at the Ontario Convention Center in September 2025. Besides that being in the works I have developed and created a line of scented essential oil “Sin-itizers” (sanitizer sprays). Each is based on a horror character with an individual scent for each.
Where can readers keep up with you?
Instagram is my go to for keeping everyone updated. Whether it’s new products releasing or events coming up.
I also have my online shop through Big Cartel. Available for all your spooky shopping needs
