Shock-A-Go-Go, Anastasia Elfman, Brian Yuzna, Oh My! [Event]

One of our Women in Horror Month alums is having a big show next weekend in LA, come one come all, join us…

Hello Anastasia, nice to catch up with you. First off, what have you been up do?
Keeping very, very busy! My indie horror comedy “Bloody Bridget” is just wrapping up her festival tour, we’ve won 24 (with 4 best actress awards). My husband Richard Elfman (Forbidden Zone, Shrunken Heads) and I created a roadshow experience for fans filled with Ricky’s live music and my bloody burlesque pre-show–I literally rip the beating heart out of an audience member! Traveling from deep Canada to the south of Brazil and everywhere in between—sometimes two, even three cities per weekend. Nuts but fun!

I’m also creating a new horror hostess show with Richard and Brian Yuzna (Re-Animator, Honey I Shrunk The Kids) using my Bloody Bridget character— A fun mix of Vampira, The Crypt Keeper, Elvira and a sprinkle of Pee-wee’s Playhouse. So keep an eye out for that–as they say, no rest for the wicked!

What inspired you to connect with Brian Yuzna and create this bloody burlesque show?
I’ve been a major fan of Brain and his films for most of my life— he’s a horror legend! We’ve known Brian a long time, he lives nearby in the Hollywood Hills and one of my husband’s best friends. So we have drinks, cigars and grill with him and his lovely wife Cathy almost weekly and chat projects and horror! Brian was a producer on Bloody Bridget and whenever he has an idea for me I immediately say ‘yes’!

I’ve also performed and worked with Brian many times for his parties, special events and most recently our Bloody Bridget LA premiere where I ripped his heart out (apologies to Cathy)! In the horror community I’m known for creating and producing ultra wild and horrific themed multimedia, “dark burlesque” pre-show performances. So it’s a ‘no brainer’ (pun intended) that I’ll be eating his brains out June 7th during his Return of the Living Dead 3 screening!

Your life and background are fascinating: dance, horror, practical effects, how fun was it putting this show together?
As of right now- less than a week away- I’m still in the bloody trenches and kind of in that “what the fuck have I done” faze, which is always part of my creative process. It’s a ton of fun and insane work to put together these pre-shows, a lot of moving parts–but I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s like my idol Lon Chaney Sr said “Between pictures, there is no Lon Chaney.” The same rings true for me. Aside from my private family life, I’m most happy when I’m creating and imagining.

Inventing these numbers are actually a dream come true as a lifelong Monsters Kid, I get to work with my idols. While I’m very hands on with every aspect of my performances, from making ROTLD3 Julie’s iconic metal wire gloves to studying her movements and incorporating her actions into my original choreography, conjuring up as a whole is definitely a team effort as I get major help from my creative friends. I would be nothing without my sound/ visual editor Aaron Marshall Cohen, my tailor Augusta Avalone and effects master Marcus Koch. These talented artists have helped fine tune my vision and are part of my constant collaborators.

When and where is the show and where can our Los Angeles readers find tickets?
Brian’s screening is part of Eric Eichelberger’s killer Shock-A-Go-Go Film Festival, which has a lot of fun screenings happening earlier on Saturday including our friend Joe Dante’s The Howling & Piranha plus Tony Randel’s Hellraiser 2!
