Warner Bros. cranked out these back-to-back primetime television specials that mixed post-1948 cartoon classics with so-so new animation bridging.
In “Bugs Bunny’s Valentine,” Elmer Fudd is a mischievous Cupid who shoots his arrows at unsuspecting Warner Bros. characters, causing them to become obsessionally attracted to the opposite sex. In “Bugs Bunny’s Mother’s Day Special,” Bugs and Granny consider the value of mothers to society and pay tribute to the stork who delivers babies (though not often to the correct households).
Both of these productions were slipshod and mediocre in their presentations, which included hefty doses of non-Bugs cartoons. The new animation was cheap looking and the laughs were too few and far between.
