At barely seventy minutes long, the newest Nikkatsu Erotic Films release “Nurse Diary: Wicked Finger” is less Asian erotica and more Asian melodrama. Young gorgeous Ryoko (Etsuko Hara) is having an affair with her boss at the bospital. He is next in line to become the chief of medicine, and in an effort to escape the nurses dorm she inhabits, she moves in to her own apartment.
This is where things go from nuts to insane. Especially when she attracts the attention of a peeping Tom. As with most Nikkatsu Porn, most of the sex scenes are well staged and erotic enough, but the movie itself is kind of tedious and immensely tame when compared to today’s idea of erotica. The film bounces back and forth between bizarre sex comedy, and goofy melodrama and can never seem to make either genres seem all too appealing. Meanwhile, the movie takes weird turns with a twist, and includes your typical Nikkatsu Porno moments of graphic sex.
This includes soft core sex, occasionally rough moments of interaction that pretend to be rape, and some girl on girl. The “Nikkatsu” library is in oddly no shortage of material including two innocent and playful lesbians going head to head with heavy petting, and shame toward their desires, as these films are prone to encourage. Despite the paper thin plot and mediocre erotic bits, “Nurse Diary” is a passable title in the library. The DVD comes with brand new optional English subtitles, Liner Notes, the original theatrical trailer, and reversible cover art for collectors.
