As with most Nikkatsu Roman Porno, if you’re in it for the hardcore sex, you’re likely going to be disappointed. These films are mainly for the sake of kitsch value and their rarity. “Horny Diver” is one of the many in the later Nikkatsu titles that exercises blurring with the more graphic parts of certain sex scenes.
When an evil land developer hires a young sex crazed man to bed the local women and clam divers to convince them to sign the deal to turn their down in to a tourist attraction, the plan backfires beyond ways either of the villains realize. “Horny Diver” tries its best to balance out heavy and drawn out sex scenes along with a more stern and dramatic tone that relies on plot. At seventy minutes, “Horny Diver” garners a more convoluted and complicated plot line, while delivering on long moments of sex and kinky interplay between characters here and there.
The movie is undercut by its attempts at erotica and drama with its mixed ambitions, and never quite delivers on either effort, realistically. While the writers try their best to offer a plot about a land developer and men bedding the wives of locals to ensure property rights, there are also moments of sex including “golden showers” and aquatic animals. There are plenty more moments of odd sexual encounters and fetishes that keep the movie from focusing on plot, thus much of it takes a back seat throughout the duration of the film. Despite the funny titles, “Horny Diver” is an okay title from Nikkatu.
