One of my favorite online haunts Freddy in Space launched Part 2 of “The 30 Question Horror Lover Challenge” recently and asked other blogs to take part. As a primer for our upcoming Halloween Horror Month, I took time off from my break to indulge in this fun survey!
If you want to fill out your own answers, put them in the comments below, or direct us to your blog with the answers!
16. BEST THROAT SLICING
The home invasion scene in “Haute Tension” is followed by the two female characters hiding in the closet. As the killer stalks up behind the mother of one of the girls, he viciously slices her throat, and we see the effect of her neck opening up and her suffocating to deaqth.
17. FAVORITE SEQUEL
Dawn of the Dead. It’s considered by almost everyone to be a sequel. And it’s one I prefer over Night of the Living Dead. Granted, Night is a masterpiece, but Dawn of the Dead is Masterpiece…erer. I think that’s a word. The scope is larger, the commentary is sharper, and the zombies are even more horrifying than ever. And Flyboy? He haunts my dreams.
18. BEST HORROR MOVIE IN THE WOODS
Cabin Fever! Just kidding, that movie is shit. Gotta go with “The Evil Dead.” The movie is low budget but so scary, and tense, and well acted. Plus Sam Raimi really knew how to give his demons a presence without the advent of fancy special effects.
19. AN ACTOR YOU ENJOYED WATCHING GET MURDERED
Eli Roth. Technically he’s an actor. I loved watching him die in “Piranha 3D.” I often rewind it and play it again screaming “Yes!” like Beavis and Butthead.
20. MOST ATTRACTIVE HORROR MOVIE KILLER
Gotta go with Virginia Merrye in “Spider Baby.” Jill Banner was a doll, and had her own sense of sex appeal. Never has inbreeding been so alluring before.
21. BEST FAMILY IN HORROR
The family from “The Strangers.” You have to love a family with so much commitment that they’d stalk and torment a couple all night just to torture and kill them. That’s dedication only a family can accomplish.
22. WORST RECENT HORROR MOVIE YOU’VE SEEN
“X-Ray.” Kind of like a less funny and boring version of “Pieces.”
23. FAVORITE 1970s HORROR
It’s a tie between “The Exorcist” and “Dawn of the Dead,” but really the 70’s served up a slew of great horror.
24. FAVORITE HORROR THEME SONG
It’s a tie between the Gonk and Tubular Bells.
25. BEST VERSION OF JASON VOORHEES
Though Hodder is often considered the quintessential Jason by many, I love the Jason in “Jason Lives.” He’s a cool relentless killing machine who is smart enough to know when to not be bribed by credit cards.
26. A HORROR YOU CAN’T WAIT TO SEE
“You’re Next.” It seems like this year’s “Cabin in the Woods,” and I loved the latter film a great deal.
27. BEST BEHEADING
“Deadly Friend.” The robotic hot dead Kristy Swanson knocks her neighbor’s head off with a basketball at full speed. It goes explodey!
28. FAVORITE B-MOVIE
Plan Nine from Outer Space.
29. MOST RIGHTEOUS KILLER
Gotta Go with Jason Voorhees. He still thinks his murders are justified because his soul can’t rest.
30. HORROR WITH AN ENDING YOU DIDN’T EXPECT TO HAPPEN
I seriously did not see the ending to “Scream” coming. Back then I sat through it expecting someone from the cast and was completely shocked to find out the murderer of the film. It was a really good twist, and one that not many fans of conventional horror expected. The momentum is lost when the ending drags on waaaaaaaaay too long with the homoerotic dialogue exchanges between the murderers, but the initial reveal is still great.
