Check Please! (2017)

Adam and Steve; are sitting in the middle of a café going over their feelings after a blind date, until Steve comes out to Adam and admits something about their hook up the night before. It’s not long until Adam has to deal with the insanity as Steve comes completely clean. I really liked the set up of “Check Please!” as it felt like a comedy skit that thankfully never wore on.

It knows what to do with its unusual premise and I giggled quite a bit during the simple but funny short. It’s the absurdity of the situation in “Check Please!” that’s so funny and makes Chad Meisenheimer’s short film so entertaining. Meisenheimer takes a common trope and twists it to where it’s so ridiculous and while for others it may have been a miss, Meisenheimer makes it work.

That’s likely due also to the performances by Meisenheimer and co-star Shane Ryan, both of whom have such hilarious chemistry together. Ryan in particular is great as this guy who is handed this incredulous situation and can’t quite figure out what to do with it, even when the most logical solution presents itself. “Check Please!” is a nice hint of Meisenheimer’s comedic ability and I hope we get to see more from him down the road.
