"Freddy vs. Jason" Soundtrack (CD)

I’d seen “Freddy vs. Jason” a week before in the movies before I’d been sent this CD, and I have to say I was pretty excited. I loved the movie so much, so I was curious to discover the approach from “Road Runner Records” towards this soundtrack. As I expected, it’s is chock full of nothing but hard rock songs that are loud and fast… not that I’m complaining; Freddy vs. Jason is a hardcore, fast paced movie so I couldn’t imagine any other type of music genre on this disc. I am a huge heavy metal fan and hoped for something like this.

Like the killers themselves in the movie, the tracks are all hardcore, fast paced and unrelenting in it’s approach with heavy guitars revving like motors, and screaming singers. The songs are all pretty cool, especially track fourteen sang by “Devildriver” with their song “Swinging the Dead”. Fans of the movie expecting a hard soundtrack will get what they expect with nonstop head banging, blood gushing, hard rock that will pulsate through your speakers.

Also, fans will get what they pay for with twenty (count ’em) twenty tracks on the disc and some pretty good songs to boot. Unfortunately, the CD falls prey to the usual hard rock CD’s of this stature: all the songs sound the same. There was nothing even remotely original to any of the songs, and every single one of them featured the lead singer screaming at the top of his lungs shouting incoherent lyrics with the guitars blaring nonstop. I would have loved to see the producer’s have more fun with this CD, and perhaps maybe even feature a sound bite or two from the movie.

The finisher to the CD is lame as well, ending with a slow rock song from “Type O Negative” with “[We were] Electrocute” that seems an almost anti-climactic finish to the entire CD. Despite its faults, and the fact that I’ve never heard of any of the bands on this CD, this is a pretty rad soundtrack that will give consumers their money’s worth for once. Hardcore horror and rock fans will eat this up with a spoon, but for fans of the movie who are not rock fans, don’t expect much.
