Behind every good movie series there are the fans that help fuel it and Tom Sullivan is probably one of the biggest and best of them all. One of the biggest indie horror success stories is Sam Raimi’s “Evil Dead” and how it rose from low budget feature to horror masterpiece. It wasn’t an overnight success but one that was helped by the fervent love and passion by its creators Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Tom Sullivan. Sullivan was one of the FX artists that helped Sam Raimi engineer “Within the Woods” in to “The Evil Dead” and worked very hard on “The Evil Dead.”

Inside The Mind of Coffin Joe [Limited Edition Arrow Video Box Set] 

Folks, pull a chair as this one is a doozy! For the uninitiated, Coffin Joe (aka José Mojica Marins) is a legend of horror, a Brazilian master, a man who is both beloved and hated, by horror fans and general audiences. He’s made some of the most violent films and some of the most bizarre films, so it was only a matter of time before someone gave him a massive box set, a sort of study of his work. Thankfully, that someone was Arrow Video, and they created a massive box set that includes everything such as 10 feature films, tons of extras, new artwork, etc. So, come with me and let’s dig because this was a challenge to watch all of this content for you all!

OSS 117 Box Set from Music Box Films (2023) 

The OSS 117 films have been around for a very long time. Originally a sort of French response to James Bond and his 007, OSS 117 films seemed to disappear for a while and then, in 2006, Jean Dujardin stepped in the suit and made it his own. His films as the famed spy started with OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies (2006), followed by OSS 117: Lost in Rio (2009), and OSS 117: From Africa with Love (2021). The box set released by Music Box Films recently contains the first two films only, something that was a bit of a letdown. However, it is a solid release of these films.

The Color Purple (1985) [4K UHD/Digital]

What with Warner Bros moving forward with their highly anticipated musical remake of Alice Walker’s 2023 musical remake of “The Color Purple,” the 4K UHD release of Steven Spielberg’s 1985 classic just made sense. With the continued push for the 4K UHD format, this re-release includes the original dramatic masterpiece on 4K UHD only. For hold outs the 1985 masterpiece arrives in a more restored and crisp picture quality. Spielberg seemed like an unusual choice to steer the adaptation of Alice Walker’s iconic novel, but his film has aged pretty well even if it has some very rough narrative choices it never quite topples.
