In the movie, we meet Ryan Dunne, a young baseball hopeful who, along with many others, are hoping to be discovered on the Cape Cod baseball league. While doing that, He is courting the local rich girl Tenley Parrish played by Jessica Biel. But her father will stop at nothing to stand in the way of their love. This is a simple dumb summer film, ergo the title, which is a pretty fun movie to watch….. that’s all. Ahoy, we have another stinker from the depths of teenage heartthrob/ terrible actor Freddie Prinze Jr.
We get this fiasco which has no idea what to do with itself or where to go in fact. Throughout the entire flick I’m not sure whether this is a romance, a sports drama, or a coming-of-age comedy farce. None of which makes a difference due to the fact that this movie is beyond terrible. First off, we have Freddie Prinze Jr. who pretends to be a the good guy and does nothing but parade around most of the time without his shirt and chasing Jessica Biel around in their convoluted and tedious romance in the movie. The romance blossoms almost instantly and blooms into an annoying one at that.
Matthew Lillard attempts to save the movies terrible plot by spewing incredibly horrid dialogue that might have been funny ten years ago. This presents all the aspects of a bad movie: a plot that goes nowhere, an uninteresting main character, a bad love story, terrible supporting characters, and even worse dialogue. So in conclusion of my bashing, I have two words for Freddie Prinze Jr.: early retirement.
