A Very Zombie Holiday (2010)

team-unicorn-zombieWho is Team Unicorn, why haven’t I heard of them until now, and why is “A Very Zombie Holiday” the best thing ever? Is it the best thing ever? It’s the best thing ever. Redundancy be damned, be damned! There is no emoticon for the anger I’m feeling for not being aware of this troupe! Team Unicorn is apparently a small comedy team comprised of four hilarious and incredibly gorgeous women whose entire shtick revolves around comedy shorts. This one in particular is called “A Very Zombie Holiday.”

What do you do when you’re preparing for holiday festivities and that darned zombie apocalypse comes banging down your doors? Well, you would be better off watching this classic fifties PSA from Team Unicorn who advises the more conscious zombie fighting house wife in the audience on what to do in case a gut muncher appears at your door the night before the big family gathering. Don’t finish your pies before dropping some dead heads, always be sure you can identify a dead head in a crowd of carolers, and always give Junior and Sally their own glocks to pop a cap in grandma’s ass, should she rise from the grave to feast on their innards under the tree.

Filled with incredible zombie make up effects, and creepy moments where the Team examine the ill-advised housewife over the prepared housewife, “A Very Zombie Holiday” is a wicked good time worthy of a full length comedy spoof that can take these four beauties and turn them in to a June Cleaver meets Rambo combo we can root for. While only three minutes in length, “A Very Zombie Holiday” sports some great gore, tongue in cheek humor that’s quite laugh out loud funny, and a firm grasp of the PSA format that makes this feel insanely genuine, even when delivering the scares.

You also have to love fantastic moments including one house wife bringing down a group of zombies with a machine gun in her kitchen while pulling pies out of her oven, and two toddlers yanking AK-47’s and semi-automatics from their gift boxes to bring down their undead granny. You’d have to be a grinch to not appreciate this veritable buffet of beauty, laughs, and creeps. I’ve sadly never heard of Team Unicorn until now and I intend to rectify this error by schooling myself in their shorts. But as an introduction, “A Very Zombie Holiday” is a funny, creepy, and entertaining short revisiting of the classic movie reels that you’d be watch in case judgment day comes pounding down your doors before Christmas.
