You wouldn’t think you could squeeze in such a unique story with so many layers in nine minutes but director Patrick Rea is up for the challenge. A tribute to “Are you Afraid fo the Dark?”, “Howl of a Good Time” is a successful ode that is in the spitir of past Rea horror comedies. Morgan Collar plays Brianne, a young girl who, with her two sisters, is attending the screening of a new horror film.
Locked out from the screening despite a note from her dad, Brianne sneaks in to what is invariably a convention of movie goers with a particularly moon shaped tattoo that brands them all. Brianne manages to sneak in to the screening but is oblivious to the fact she’s stepped in to a den of wolves. Director Rea really captures the magic of movie going while also unfolding a fun and funny horror yarn that is teeming with your classic themes of comeuppance. Newcomer Morgan Collar’s performance is very good, as well as the turns by Tamara Glynn and Leslie Easterbrook. “Howl of a Good Time” is another of the classic Patrick Rea horror tales, and one I intend to watch again very soon.
