The Boulet Brothers’ Halfway to Halloween TV Special (2023)

It’s that time of year yet again, the time where we’re officially halfway to Halloween! Not one to ignore the pre-festivities, Shudder celebrates the occasion with their runaway hit, “The Boulet Brothers.” This time around the Boulet Brothers and their wicked horror loving personas pull out all the stops celebrating Halloween the best way they know how: with a classic variety show filled to the brim with blood, dark comedy, and myriad horror heavyweights.

I’ve admittedly never seen The Boulet Brothers’ series before, despite their show being a runaway hit on the Shudder streaming service, but they’re exactly the kind of people you want to celebrate the holiday with. The Boulet Brothers (Dracmorda and Swanthula) have a surefire love for the special holiday and they bring in a slew of big celebrities. This includes David Dastmalchian, Barbara Crampton, Felissa Rose, Jorge Garcia, Dana DeLorenzo, and Derek Mears, just to name a few.

Doing a damn good job hosting, the special not only garners some fun musical numbers (from the Twin Temple), but there are some horror oriented comedy sketches. Felissa Rose does a great gag promoting a Summer Camp, Barbara Crampton teaches us how to cook a human carcass in a cooking demonstration, and—my favorite—a foursome of monsters make a pact not to kill anyone, a la “Seinfeld.” That’s probably the sketch that lands the best, as the cast really pulls off their characters well.

I also loved the hilarious toy ad featuring John Ross Bowie, and the hysterical disastrous psychic hotline sketch starring Rachel True. “The Boulet Brothers’ Halfway to Halloween TV Special” is such a blast. It’s exactly the type of Halloween program you’ll want to visit if you’re already getting in the mood for October.

Now Streaming Exclusively on Shudder.
