The Walking Dead: Season Three [Limited Edition Aquarium Tank] [Blu-ray]

The-Walking-Dead-Season-3-L“There’s an economic concept known as a positional good in which an object is only valued by the possessor because it’s not possessed by others. The term was coined in 1976 by economist Fred Hirsch to replace the more colloquial, but less precise “neener-neener.””

One of the main aspects of the limited edition set, is that you really have to read the directions. I know, it’s just common sense, but when you’re opening the box to this and looking through the contents, you don’t really expect a directions slip. My first problem: Would it have hurt them to include batteries with the set? Hell, I would have shelled out a few more dollars for the sake of it.

You have to buy four AAA batteries, and if you can manage to crack open the lid on the bottom, it’s a great pay off. The tanks slide out from the set very easily, and the lids come off allowing you to adjust the zombie heads in whatever order you want. There are pegs behind the heads with springs on the back allowing them to hang there, but they’re invisible. Especially when you turn on the light.

Mimicking the haunting blue glow from the Governor’s head tanks in the show, the light is a haunting blue that is set up with enough of an angle to make the zombie heads look horrifying. Another detail that I missed is that the button is very small on the set, and the light can be activated by pressing the small 3 on the Logo on the front of the head tank. I’ve seen people suggest filling the tanks with water, but I opted not to do that. I really don’t want to have water seeping in to this set. The Blu-Ray edition that comes with the set is the same basic set you get from other retailers, except it’s a Matte Finish Digipak casing like the re-re-release of “The Walking Dead” Season One in 2011.

It can be slid in and out from behind the tank lending an authenticity to the sculpture without making it apparent it’s a fancy holder for your Blu-Ray. All in all it’s a much more elaborate set than the zombie head from season two. With the head you merely lifted it by the screwdriver and slid out the Blu-Ray. Here, you really have to work for twenty minutes to gain the full effect. If you can buy an eye patch, and keep a walker in a cage beside you, you’ll be feeling like a dictatorial murderous Governor, in no time. If you were lucky enough to grab on to this set early, the price is very reasonable. Almost too reasonable. If you’re unfortunate enough to buy this on Ebay where it’ll likely go for triple its Asking Price in online retailers, then god speed. As someone who never buys collectibles (Poor guy, right here), and is a hardcore devotee of “The Walking Dead,” this is a gem in my collection.
