Human Weapon

Human_WeaponOne of the great aspects of “Human Weapon” is not so much that it’s different, but that it takes a unique perspective on the usual History Channel programming. Rather than explore man made weapons, the two charismatic hosts explore human weapons who use deadly and strong forms of fighting to battle opponents. Imagine “Dirty Jobs” but in a different format. Much like Mike Rowe, our two hosts are very experienced in platform they’re studying, explore these different art forms, and even involve themselves in it.

The only difference is that Jason Chambers and Bill Duff are two skilled fighters, one a mixed martial artist, the other an ex-wrestler, and they almost look like comic book stalwarts drifting through the real world. One of the appeals of “Human Weapon” are the hosts, and these two guys are rough necks. They’re never afraid to bring themselves into these forms, and get damaged doing so, once they step into a home base that isn’t their own. For the first episode, we follow the two as they present the history of Muay Thai boxing, and give us a rather lengthy back story on the brutal history of it, and even the mechanics. I’ll admit I had a hard time not enjoying myself, even as someone who never cares to watch the martial arts sports such as Muay Thai.

Through the program we’re given displays, staged fighting, demonstration, an example of the environment these bouts take place in, interviews with professionals, and of course, one of the two eventually will try it out and battle a master of this martial art. You guys just have to love it. I sure did. As the pilot episode continues, the two hosts realize that they will have to battle the grand champion of the sport, as they’re challenged by the manager of a Muay Thai school to bout with the best of the best, and as tensions grows, they have to decide which wants to get in the ring and risk a harsh injury. “Human Weapon” is a fascinating and exciting glimpse into the martial arts of other cultures, and it’s deserving of an audience. I’ll be watching the premiere, that’s for sure.
