Community of the Dead

community-1If you’re one of the many TV viewers right now being disappointed, you’re not alone. Most of the returning shows are horrible this year, and FOX Television has been pulled from Cablevision subscribers thus most of the television now is a drab affair. Every year Halloween comes down on our doors, and every year many shows are up to the task to create something inventive. Sometimes they ignore it altogether (Shame on you “The Big Bang Theory”) and sometimes they’re up for some fun.

This year two shows really amped it up with bonafide laughs and hysterics. One was “Modern Family” which was an all out classic episode involving miscommunication ending in a spider-man costume, and a haunted house attraction that went horribly wrong after family bickering. The highlight was Sara Hyland’s variety of skimpy costumes.

But as much as we love “Modern Family,” we thought we’d spotlight “Community,” a show that is a hit with fans but is on the bubble. Which is a shame considering this year they brought their A Game. This year instead of a goofy episode they staged their very own self contained Zombie movie. A twenty minute show on NBC staged a better zombie movie than most indie filmmakers out there.

“Community” starts out as a fun time in the college with hijinks involving costume confusion, Troy and Abed being nerds, and suddenly takes a turn for the worst when the dean buys food from the army that is actually top secret chemicals turning everyone in to flesh eating zombies. Filled with raucous laughs and a brilliant script, as usual the crew behind “Community” went against the crowd and created a special episode worthy of being its own movie.

From riffing on the stupid cat cliches, to the black dude making it to the end of the movie, and a running gag involving ABBA, this episode was outright brilliant and had us choking with laughter. Here are some pics and quotation marks from this episode in case you missed it:
