Five More of My Favorite Fictional Movie Rock Bands

It’s that time of year again and since I haven’t continued in my quest to list all of my favorite fictional movie rock bands, I thought a sequel would be only appropriate. These are five more of my favorite fictional movie rock bands from past and present. While I took some liberties stretching the definition of rock and roll, I think this list holds up.

The Hex Girls – The Scooby Doo Universe
I love the Hex Girls and I’m barely a “Scooby Doo” fan when all is said and done. Making their first appearance in “Scooby Doo and the Witch’s Ghost,” the Hex Girls made a huge impact on fans and still do. Obvious stand ins for “Josie and the Pussycats,” they’re comprised of Luna, Thorn, and Dusk, three Goth musicians portrayed by Kimberly Brooks, Jennifer Hale, and Jane Wiedlin, respectively. Personally I’m a fan of their theme song “Hex Girls,” and their very cool “Earth, Wind and Fire.”

The Blues Brothers – The Blues Brothers
The Blues Brothers are more blues and soul, but I’ll count it for this list. The Blues Brothers originally began life as characters on SNL in America, and then they turned out one hell of a fun comedy movie. “The Blues Brothers,” comprised of Jake and Elwood who are on a mission of God and end up in a lot of mishaps that almost always result in raucous musical numbers. It’s too bad they’re still not around today.

Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem – The Muppets
I grew up with the Muppets, the Muppet Babies, and Jim Henson’s creations, so watching them on television you were always bound to eventually see Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem perform. They’ve gained a small resurgence over the last few years, and for good reason: They are fucking awesome. Comprised of Floyd, Lips, Animal, Janice, Dr. Teeth, and Zoot, they’re still one of the most appealing group of characters in the Muppet family, and they rock hard.

Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes a.k.a. The Cantina Band – Star Wars
Often confused with the Max Rebo Band from “Return of the Jedi,” the Cantina Band is the OG of the “Star Wars” music-verse. Did Max Rebo have a hit record in America in the 1970’s? I think not. Did they entertain a young Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan while making a crucial deal with Han Solo? I think not. The Cantina Band plays through everything in a rough and tumble Cantina filled with the dregs of the galaxy. They’re talented and hardcore.

The Clash at Demonhead – Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
There’s singer Envy Adams, bassist Todd Ingram, and drummer Lynette Guycott, the former of whom happens to be the ex of Scott Pilgrim. They’re a powerhouse band in their home land of Montreal Canada and established as a humongous rock act that’s most likely gone international at that point. Their song “Blacksheep” is a monster of a rock song. I much prefer it sung by Brie Larson who plays Envy Adams in the movie, but in general it’s a wonderful song.
