Some movies just stay with you forever no matter what. It’s not like you add them to a Top 10 or even a Top 50 list of your favorite movies, but yet you keep stumbling across it. THE STUFF is like that for me. I’ve seen it at least fifty times, probably more than that, but if you were to ask me why I watch it at least once a year I couldn’t really tell you. I didn’t seek it out at the time, I’m not even a big Larry D. Cohen fan. Yet here I am nearly forty years later still enjoying the hell out of this thing. It stars Michael Moriarty, Garrett Morris, Andrea Marcovicci, Paul Sorvino and Scott Bloom, and it was directed and written by Larry D. Cohen. Welcome to BAD MOVIE MONDAY!

BAD MOVIE MONDAY: PIECES (1982)
The word of the day, when choosing something for my friends and I to watch on BAD MOVIE MONDAY, has almost always been “agony”. However, on the particular night that we watched this movie I thought it’d probably healthier for their collective sanity to at least try to pick something that wasn’t gut wrenchingly awful. Hence, we watched 1982’s PIECES. Partially because it has Christopher George in it, who’s sort of become my own personal bad movie mascot, and also because no one else but me in the group had watched it and I thought it was a rather important film. It’s a quirky mix of Italian Giallo and American Slasher movie tropes, even though the film is Spanish. It’s also not a bad movie in any way. Let me be very clear about that. However, it has enough bonkers moments and questionable logic to be shown on a “bad” movie night.

BAD MOVIE MONDAY: DEATH BED – THE BED THAT EATS (1977)
It was inevitable that me and this film cross paths I suppose. Once you go looking for the devil you’re bound to find him. DEATH BED – THE BED THAT EATS is a 1977 movie directed by George Barry and starring Demene Hall, William Russ, Julie Ritter, Linda Bond and Patrick Spence-Thomas. The film is pure unadulterated madness, and I am so happy to say that it is the pure vision of a genuine auteur. Those always make for the best bad movies, because they are noble failures. So even if you make fun of them, as I do, you still love them and are invested in what you’re watching. I was more excited to watch this film than I ever could be for Avatar 2.

BAD MOVIE MONDAY: ACTION USA (1989)
Welcome back to BAD MOVIE MONDAY! Today I’m going to review something legendary. Well, legendary to me anyway. It’s called ACTION U.S.A. and stars Gregory Scott Cummins, William Hubbard Knight, Barri Murphy, Cameron Mitchell, William Smith and Ross Hagen. It was released in 1989 and directed by stuntman John Stewart. It was written by… Oh, who am I kidding? This movie wasn’t written. It was a teenager’s daydream that was doodled on the back of his algebra textbook during class and the filmmakers used that as a script. Seriously, this movie is bananas.
BAD MOVIE MONDAY: ABSURD (1981)
ABSURD is a 1981 Italian slasher movie directed by the legendary Joe D’Amato. It stars George Eastman, Annie Belle, and Edmund Purdom. It was initially written as a sequel to ANTHROPOPHAGUS but, as the legend goes, they rewrote the script when Eastman thought the original was terrible. That’s the “official” narrative, which I personally think is a load of horseshit. My two cents? Slasher movies were pulling in big numbers and the producers, after smelling money the way sharks smell blood, decided to rip off John Carpenter. Literally. There are a bunch of scenes in this film that, while not totally ripped off from Halloween 1 and 2, are close enough that I’m shocked D’Amato wasn’t sued.

BAD MOVIE MONDAY: TRUTH OR DARE? A CRITICAL MADNESS (1986)
TRUTH OR DARE? A CRITICAL MADNESS is a 1986 slasher film directed by Tim Ritter. Its first twenty minutes or so began as a segment in an anthology called “Twisted Illusion” released the year before. It is… not good. The plot holes are… huge. The acting is… a disaster. The direction… I can’t even tell you what the hell was going on there. What I’m trying to say is that this was very nearly the worst movie I have ever personally suggested for Bad Movie Monday, and I’ve suggested a lot of howlers. Which, of course, means it was the BEST movie I ever suggested. So prepare yourselves if you decide to ever watch this for yourselves. This was a hell of a ride.

BAD MOVIE MONDAY: MUTILATIONS (1986)
Yes! THIS exactly what I feel BAD MOVIE MONDAY is all about. This is why I spend hours and hours trying to find the craziest and weirdest stuff to show to my friends. MUTILATIONS is a ridiculous and batshit insane movie about a group of college students investigating cattle mutilations and being stalked by an alien. No bad movie is ever more entertaining than one made by people who legitimately yearn to make a good movie but simply don’t have the skills or money to pull it off. This is all of that and more. So much more.
