My Fan Casting for James Gunn’s “Superman: Legacy”

I, for one, am excited to see what director James Gunn is going to do with Superman in 2025 when “Superman: Legacy” flies to theaters. I liked Henry Cavil as Superman, but with this new vision of the man of steel, there is a call for new blood. I, like every other comic book nerd and Superman geek, have compiled a list of actors I think should star in “Superman: Legacy.” They all could and would bring something fresh to the table in what I am certain is going to be an epic return for Superman on the big screen.

Let me know your own choices in the comments!

Superman/Clark Kent – Darren Criss (Glee, American Horror Story)
Darren Criss has already voiced Superman and Clark Kent in a few animated movies, I think he’d be excellent as the live action Clark Kent and Superman. As Clark he’d be a great humble country boy who is a shockingly savvy reporter, while also working as the every man hero that is Superman. With his background he’d be fantastic as a non-threatening defender of the weak, who stands up against criminals, madmen, and literal Gods. Criss has that boy next door energy where you could never picture him wearing a cape and tossing a tank in to the sun, but then one day he’s there in full regalia as Metropolis’ defender.

Lois LaneCamilla Mendes (Riverdale)
Camilla Mendes has already proven herself in “Riverdale,” and she’s shown she could play the savvy, brainy, beautiful heroine in her interpretation of Veronica Lodge. I think she’d kill it as Lois Lane, playing the smart mouthed, quick witted ace reporter who is relentless with the people she covers. If Mendes can lend complexity and depth to Veronica on a show like “Riverdale,” she’d pull off the one liners and marvelous interplay with Clark Kent without a single hitch in a movie of pure substance and characterization.

Perry White – Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy)
Michael Rooker has always been great in these kinds of roles, and I think it’s time we got back the loud mouthed, barking Perry White. I didn’t enjoy the more soft spoken and subtle Perry’s we got in “Superman Returns” and “Man of Steel.” He should be a blowhard who is screaming at everyone, but is deep down a noble journalist who believes in what he’s doing. Michael Rooker would be great in the role, and James Gunn loves working with him.

Jimmy Olsen – Caleb McLaughlin (Stranger Things)
The Snyderverse already introduced us to an older Jimmy Olsen that was murdered on-screen (for fun), so I think it’d be a great idea to retcon Jimmy as an brilliant freelance photographer who admires Lois Lane, and spends a great amount of time being berated by Perry White who secretly admires his ability to give him photographs that no one else at rival papers can. Caleb McLaughlin would kill it as Olsen.

Lex Luthor – Glenn Powell (Top Gun: Maverick)
Glenn Powell is one of the best up and coming actors working today and he’s more than proven himself to play a foil and or antagonist with considerable dimension. As Lex Luthor, he’d be a scene stealer. I have always been a fan of the Lex Luthor who is part industrialist billionaire and part mad scientist and as Luthor he’d be bold, cunning, despicable, but charming. He’d be the perfect example of a human with a God complex who hates Superman for possessing the abilities of a God.
