In the spirit of the Boost Mobile promotion, the common thread in these “Stay Living” shorts is that the four characters chronicled in these films know they’re alive by use of their cell phones. They take pictures and videos of their killings and missions and stay connected, even after the end of the world. And, as explained in the intro film, they’ll all eventually meet up to compare notes, and split the loot four ways.
I’d really love to see director Matt Devine give audiences his own zombie film. I think it’d be creepy and darkly funny. In either case, “How to clear an office full of zombies” is one of the best of the five short horror films, as we meet Mary. Mary is a gorgeous red haired warrior who is tasked with going in to an office high rise alone, and has to take whatever will be useful. Mostly though, she has to bring back cell phone chargers for the rest of her group, lest they be in the dark.
Director Devine only has five minutes to lay out the basic setting and he pulls off the feat yet again, using visuals to depict foreshadowing. With quick thinking and clever tactics, Mary is a gorgeous one woman army, handling two paper cutting blades and taking down every zombie in her sight. Devine’s usual fluid directing and long takes suck the viewer in to the action, painting the office as a surefire warzone that Mary conquers with confidence, and it’s a great book end to a fantastic series of zombie shorts.
