This is a very disappointing effort from Disney. The entire movie is very pedestrian and nothing entirely stands out within the viewing of this. First off, the plot, though sweet is very contrived and never brings to mind the words innovative, which most Disney movies are known for. The movie is a rip-off of “Extra-Terrestrial”, the only problem is, “E.T.” is a better movie.
I don’t see why Disney would market Stitch as a loveable, when in fact, he is wretched. He is probably the most repulsive character I’ve seen in Disney ever. He’s loud, rude, crude and looks like a Koala on acid. At times I found myself cringing at some of its antics and when we’re supposed to feel sorry for him, I never was. The character animation is very odd and so sleek I enjoyed it rather thoroughly. The characters are also very good, especially Nani. Tia Carrere is great in this making her the best character out of the entire movie. The character design is also very well as we see a nice assortment of great looking aliens and such. The entire movie is like a remembrance of the roots of Disney when they used to use just two-dimensional designs.
The characters actually dealt within the circle of the movie are also unlikable; we have Lilo, the main character who is supposed to be cute, but never actually is. Then we have a suggested romance between Nani and David (Jason Scott Lee), but is just brief and never emphasized. Not to mention the unoriginal score which is almost completely comprised of songs from Elvis. It was inadequate and at times annoying, sparking me to wonder if they’re all but run out of ideas. The ending, worse of all, is so transparent it seems like it’s all just a set-up for a potential opening to an animated series. An unpleasant, terrible, and very flawed animated film from Disney that scrapes the bottom of the barrel with their most unlikable animated hero and heroine to date.
