It’s become almost a tradition for some filmmaker to remake Nathan Juran’s 1958 schlock monster movie. Pretty much every four or five years a new variation of the formula pops up with a studio inserting some kind of entity. Now that CamGirl’s are still a thing and much more relevant, Jim Wynorski brings us the Attack of a 50 Foot CamGirl. It’s the bare minimum in the scope of attempted cult filmmaking; your mileage may vary depending on what you’re willing to endure when it comes to seeing busty blonde fifty feet women.
I’m looking at you, Macrophiliacs.
Beverly Wood is one of the biggest stars on social media, and everyone loves her; everyone except her husband, Bradley and Fuschia, the young upstart who secretly plots to bring Beverly down and take over her online empire forever. But when Beverly’s latest – and untested – brand “Unholy Meat-rimony” gives her some gargantuan side effects, she balloons to beastly proportions, and the now 50 foot tall influencer becomes super large and ready for revenge.
As with most modern Jim Wynorski movies, “Attack…” is made on a low budget, with limited settings, and only clocks in at an hour in length, not including the credits. As with usual Wynorski productions, he’s in no short supply of soft core porn stars and models, so he—fills the screen them. Christine Nguyen is especially a woman who has been in so many of his past skin flicks, so she naturally pops up here as the film’s villainous mistress. The movie itself barely makes good on the giant woman as she only appears about thirty minutes in to the movie, and in scarcity. For a movie promising a giant woman, it’s disappointing we don’t see much of her wreaking havoc in her giant form.
The movie revolves mainly around Ivy Smith, the blonde buxom Beverly who spends the duration of her time on screen pouting, sitting, and spitting out stilted, often awkward bits of dialogue. Once we get to the giant Beverly Wood (thirty minutes in!) she doesn’t offer anything really original, save for sitting in front of her house and walking around her backyard. She does smash an In and Out Burger, and a Full Moon billboard (ho hum) and we do eventually get a smack down between giant Beverly and giant Fuschia. To punctuate the low budget, Wynorski tires to make Beverly look taller by obviously fitting her in large platform high heels.
He gives it away as when Beverly and Fushia battle during a photo shoot, you can hear Beverly’s clicking shoes the entire time. With “Attack of the 50 Foot Cam Girl” that is about as good as its gets for such a hokey premise and minuscule budget. Wynorski is never short on silliness and schlock that feels more suited for late night, mid-nineties, premium cable.
