Orson Welles is the cinematic gift that never stops giving. Just when you think you’ve seen every film and television appearance credited to him, another long-lost piece of ephemera manages to emerge and fill out his already considerable canon. This past week, a pair of Facebook friends shared a half-hour video that Welles did on behalf of the Caesars Palace resort in Las Vegas in 1978 – I never knew this existed and was excited to check it out.

I have a Facebook friend named John Rosa who posts New York-area TV Guide listings from the 1960s and 1970s, and today he shared the selection of programming that was available on February 1, 1974. Over on ABC at 8:00 p.m. was a one-shot special called “The Baboons of Gombe” that featured animal behaviorist Jane Goodall studying a troop of 40 baboons that lived along the shore of Lake Tanganyika.

Carmine Capobianco (1958 – 2021)
Carmine Capobianco, the underground film actor who starred in the memorable flicks “Psychos in Love,” “Galactic Gigolo” and “The Land of College Prophets,” passed away on January 9 at the age of 62 following a long fight against cancer.
