"Freddy vs. Jason" Soundtrack (CD)

I’d seen “Freddy vs. Jason” a week before in the movies before I’d been sent this CD, and I have to say I was pretty excited. I loved the movie so much, so I was curious to discover the approach from “Road Runner Records” towards this soundtrack. As I expected, it’s is chock full of nothing but hard rock songs that are loud and fast… not that I’m complaining; Freddy vs. Jason is a hardcore, fast paced movie so I couldn’t imagine any other type of music genre on this disc. I am a huge heavy metal fan and hoped for something like this.

Cinema Crazed vs. Harry Potter

J.K. Rowling and the many Potter fans–don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the stories to a certain extent–even though most Harry Potter fans are fucking infuriating. What’s my beef with Rowling? She really is just a rip-off artist and unlike most writers who take inspiration from elsewhere, she gave no credit to anyone but herself. My proof? First, Neil Gaiman, one of the best writers alive. Many Many moons ago, long before Mr. Potter came into being, he created and wrote a comic series titled “The Books of Magic” (1994-2000).

George Romero's "Resident Evil": The Script For the Movie we Never Saw

For those of you non- horror movie geeks and none “Resident Evil” fans; back when the “Resident Evil” movie was in the works, the studios recruited horror legend George Romero to write and direct the movie. He then created a script that was rejected by the Hollywood fat-cats because it was too violent and too scary. So he was fired from the project and the studios made the movie more watchable and watered down to appeal to the teenage male audience. So, after firing him they enlisted action director Paul Anderson (Mortal Kombat) to re-write the script and water down the movie. The movie wasn’t as good as audiences guessed it would be, and when fans discovered this crime, they instantly protested. Though, George Romero’s vision was never given to the American audience, his script still lives on in the internet.

The MPAA

Ultimately, there’s no need for the MPAA. They’re an organization who not only rule over official movie based websites and movies in general, but they want to take control of the only facet for movie makers that have no boundaries: straight to video releases. I do agree with the rating system for television shows like TVY7 or PG because it’s a good tool for parents and I do agree with the movie ratings ala, R, PG, it’s very important we know what we’re dealing with when entering a film but there shouldn’t be any tailoring involved.

Horror Movies

“Horror is the future. And you can not be afraid. You must push everything to the absolute limit. Or else life will be boring. People will be boring. Horror is like a serpent; always shedding it’s skin, always changing. And it will always come back. It can’t be hidden away like the guilty secrets we try to keep in our unconscious.” – Dario Argento

Horror has become the dominant force in my movie purchases, movie viewings, and movie contemplations simply because I was introduced to the genre as a child and because they’re fun to watch. I seek out every horror movie there is, good or bad. I first saw “Night of the Living Dead” when I was seven, and it was horrifying. I have nothing but a petrifying fear for zombie movies. I’ll watch whatever horror movie you want me to, but I’m scared shitless of zombie films no matter what film and when it was made. My first glimpses of the walking dead feeding on an arm, chewing off the flesh scared me and it was the most shocking thing I’ve ever seen. Just talking about it makes me look over my shoulder in fear.

Why We Do It

“Great films are not happening because some mid-level schluphead wants to hold onto his expense account. He doesn’t want to risk it on a decision, or on somebody who hasn’t already made 10 hits.”
– Brad Bird, director of The Incredibles, The Iron Giant

I don’t think movies should be tailored for audiences. They should be created, made, filmed and then whatever audience it appeals to, then so be it, and that should make for a movie’s success. Movie’s are treated as a product by companies and studios. While they do have potential many times for franchises and money making opportunities, they aren’t a product, nor should they be subjected to scrutiny by audiences who decide something is good or bad in the story, or the characters.

Movies are works of art, moving works of art, thus they should be on display for onlookers to observe as works from artists. Should we still call movies works of art if they were immensely tailored for audiences? Trim the climax, keep the storytelling to a minimum, change this character to fit a better profile. It’s all basic bullshit. Davinci never went around his village asking people which shade of black they’d prefer on the Mona Lisa, and Stephen King never asked people which ending they’d like better in “Carrie”, so why should movies be subjected to such ridiculous routines such as testing audiences?
