"King of the Grindhouse" 42nd Street Pete: The Deuce, Stag, and The New School

Movie lovers already know who 42nd Street Pete is, he’s a man you’ll either love or hate, who has spent most of his life talking about and writing about movies. That’s our kind of man. Simply known as 42nd Street Pete, he is a connoisseur of trash cinema and has an encyclopedic knowledge of everything from stag films right down to Hammer, and loves sharing his insight about what he’s experienced. Pete, even at the height of his cult fame interviewing Joe Knetter and George Romero, garnering a following, and sporting almost ten specialty compilation DVDs with his brand name, the man was still kind enough to take the time out for an interview and share his sights and sounds with us for the readers. Pete is extremely humble for a man who has seen and done it all, and at his fifties he doesn’t seem to be slowing down. You’ll find no shortage of opinions from Pete who constantly rants on his MySpace blog about social issues, and saves the movie stuff for his two very entertaining websites, where he mixes movie reviews with his own personal anecdotes on how and why he found them.

Tripping the Rift: The Movie (2008)

zRis

My first experience with “Tripping the Rift” was on the television show “Exposure” on the Science Fiction channel where the series that displayed a variety of independent filmmakers and their short films aired a special “Star Wars” tribute episode. “Tripping the Rift” was one of my favorites of the episode and it powered on to be a cult spin-off that I never sadly watched while it was on the air. “Tripping the Rift: The Movie” is a serviceable pop culture love letter, with not a single hint of originality, but a great energy that makes it worthy of the watch, even for people who have no idea what the plot is. Because, I sure as hell don’t. I know it’s a Canadian cartoon of the Canuck persuasion, and has a really hot computer animated chick in it.

Anita: Swedish Nymphet (1973)

When you get right down to it, sure, “Anita” is sexploitation, and sure in many occasions it can be pure smut, but, and this is a giant but: “Anita” can also be quite entertaining. Very much in the vein of films like “Black Snake Moan,” Wickman’s drama porn is not just a display for Christina Lindberg and her gorgeous physique, it’s an interesting study in the habits of nymphomaniacs, and the misery that can arise from sex and sexual acts when it’s made out of sheer impulse and not pleasure. Sixteen year old Anita is a girl with so much psychosis that she’s hopelessly addicted to sex and really has no grasp on restraint or discretion when it comes to getting what she wants.

Our Top 10 Porn Stars (NSFW)

What we define as porn is a debate and discussion that can go in circles for literal hours. What’s the norm to you may be graphic to another person, what may be utterly perverse to you may not be so bad to me, thus the position of porn in our society is a constant hot topic. What is porn? What do we define as porn? Is “Basic Instinct” porn? Is “Debbie Does Dallas” porn? Sure enough, I make no real secret of my involvement with X-Critic and how I review porn titles. I think sex should be discussed openly allowing an open forum for people to express themselves and gain a better awareness of their individuality. Puritanical society and conservative America has done everything in their power to shut down the Porn Industry and bring it to a grinding halt while also attempting to suck it dry “for the sake of the economy,” but all efforts have failed and pornography remains a multi-billion dollar industry that poses no clear threat to society.

I’m always open in admitting that I love porn and I love the business that is pornography. It’s a multi-faceted, and constantly morphing medium that’s always straight forward about the taboos it touches on. And like every fan of pornography, I love the stars of it. Over the years I’ve managed to grab a list of my favorite porn stars of all time. While the research was fun, the primary point of this list is to celebrate porn and reveal a part of this website that appreciates film whether it’s a drama, comedy, or pornography.

American Dreamz (2006)

Muslims that speak primarily English and not their home land’s language, a Muslim young man who sings and dances and isn’t killed for it, a glorified karaoke show that’s staged, scripted, and twisted, a dumb president who can barely walk on his own, and a vice president that pretty much coaches the president’s appearances and speeches. “American Dreamz” is not only incredibly stupid, but it pretty much states the obvious from minute one. Weitz and crew almost create a “Satire for Dummies” film, featuring gags and social commentary that are neither funny, nor edgy, and tread over the same old crap we’ve seen in various other television shows, and films time and time again.

Deep Throat (1972)

Doctor: Having a clitoris at the bottom of your throat is better than having no clitoris at all.
Linda: That’s easy for you to say! Imagine having your balls on your ears!
Doctor: Well… then I could hear myself cumming!

You know it, you love it, you pretend not to know what it is in front of certain company, it’s “Deep Throat,” a movie that’s become so utterly famous that it’s also helped to define the oral sex technique that’s like average fellatio, but amps it up a notch. I won’t sit here and explain the difference between regular blow jobs, and deep throating, because I know that you know what the actual difference is, no matter how much you deny it in the end. “Deep Throat,” much like “Debbie Does Dallas,” is one of the porn classics that really go beyond its genre. This is a film that’s become a staple of pop culture and really did shake everyone up to their boots for the simple fact that it was a huge hit. And for the fact that the success for the film was less about the film’s quality, and more on the gravitas it brought with it to seedy movie theaters. I mean what’s not to like about it? It’s only an hour long, features hardcore sex scenes, the late great Linda Lovelace, and has a title that pretty much describes the entire plot.

Debbie Does Dallas (1978)

Let me tell you, its tough reviewing one of the most famous porn movies ever made. Hell, its tough reviewing porn, period. How do you review a porno movie? I can’t really speak on the acting, because hell, it’s a porn movie, there aren’t Oscar winning performances. And the production quality is abysmal. So, how do I go about this, I ask myself. But you’re probably asking why I’m reviewing a porno movie. Well, it’s just because this over-opinionated asshole wanted to throw his three cents in on this classic film. You’ve all heard about it. You know about it, so I thought I’d just give you the lowdown. The reason “Debbie Does Dallas” is such a bonafide classic is simply because it has everything men and women like in a porno. The sex scenes are staged fantasies, the cast is comprised of cheerleaders, and our main character is hot. “Debbie Does Dallas” has a huge history in the film medium. For proof on that, check out “Debbie Does Dallas Uncovered,” and you’ll see what I mean. The reason why “Debbie Does Dallas” was big was because of Bambi Woods. People attribute the success of this film to many things, but I pin it on Bambi Woods. Woods isn’t (or wasn’t, if she’s actually dead) a fox in the strictest sense.
