I have never heard of this book before and I was rather hesitant to watch this due to the fact that it was left basically unnoticed and pushed to the side in the midst of all the big budget trash in the theaters. I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this story. Alexis Bledel gives a really good performance as the main character Winnie and really helps drives this movie. She’s a really gifted actress and is able to pull off the early century lingo without fault of flaw. She reminds me of a young Brooke Shields giving both hard gritted strength and warm vulnerability all at the same time. I really became interested in her character and really wanted to know how she would end up by the end of the movie.

Jeepers Creepers 2 (2003)
Victor Salva proves he can direct and gives this film a much darker and grim tone as the first film. He manages to put the audience in the seats and minds of these characters and make them feel as if they’re being hunted by the creeper. Placing this group of people in a cramped broken down bus and throwing them at this intelligent and violent creature is brilliant and after a while you start to get nervous and anxious. Salva lets us in some of the origin of the creature but never spills the beans.
Freddy vs. Jason (2003)
The highly anticipated, long awaited, long talked about duel horror fans (including me) have been awaiting has finally come onto the big screen. After many many script changes, and remaining in ten years in movie making limbo, “Freddy Vs. Jason” has come. A new generation of kids have come to Elm Street and Freddy Krueger wants their souls, but his memory has long been extinguished by the parents of the previous years and he no longer has power over their kids’ dreams. Now, desperate to reclaim his power over the children and reincarnate his memory, he tricks the machete wielding, hockey masked killer Jason Voorhees (Ken Kirzinger) into rising from the grave once more to instill horror into the kids, but when Jason becomes too hot to handle, Freddy Krueger decides to take matters into his own hands and kill Jason himself. Who will win the ultimate undead battle? I’m not telling.
Donnie Darko (2001)
Over the past two years, “Donnie Darko” has slowly managed to achieve an underground cult status among movie lovers and horror lovers, so when I was able to grab hold of this, I had to check it out. Jake Gyllenhaal, independent actor for critically acclaimed films such as “Moonlight Mile”, and “The Good Girl” stars as the anti-social delusional boy known as “Donnie Darko”. Instantly, the movie begins with a mystery: we see Darko lying along a road looking out upon the city and so forth a voice tells the prophecy to him about the end of the world occurring in 28 days. Throughout the entire film, a demonic spirits in the form of a rabbit begins telling him these omens, and thought Donnie struggles to fight it, can’t escape the messages.
Waking Life (2001)
A nameless young man walks out from a bus station calling his friend from a phone looking for a ride and in come a man dressed as a sea captain driving a boat/car. That’s where the journey begins as the man talks about philosophy which the boy merely disregards as yammering. A young boy in a dream world confronts characters who impart philosophical and existential ideas upon him forcing him to come to grips with his own purpose and existence. What he doesn’t know is where he’s going which the man is talking about in front of him. I was intrigued by where this movie was going and became truly engulfed within the context and meaning of the film itself.
Final Destination 2 (2002)
I’m a self-confessed hardcore horror addict, and I really liked the original movie which came onto the screens with a lot of mixed reviews, but managed to keep me thrilled. I wasn’t surprised there would be a sequel and wasn’t expecting much but got more than I bargained for. There’s barely any stars in the movie which makes it more believable when the characters die in their awfully gruesome deaths and there’s plenty of gruesome deaths to go around. From a ladder through the eyes, to being crushed by glass, to being spliced by a wire fence, there’s a lot of gory painful deaths shown in this movie, and the director doesn’t hold back.
Cinema Crazed vs. Harry Potter
J.K. Rowling and the many Potter fans–don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the stories to a certain extent–even though most Harry Potter fans are fucking infuriating. What’s my beef with Rowling? She really is just a rip-off artist and unlike most writers who take inspiration from elsewhere, she gave no credit to anyone but herself. My proof? First, Neil Gaiman, one of the best writers alive. Many Many moons ago, long before Mr. Potter came into being, he created and wrote a comic series titled “The Books of Magic” (1994-2000).
