Maggie vs. Evil Dead (2015)

I agree with the zombies. Maggie Carr is incredibly charming, and very funny, which is a lethal combination. “Maggie vs. Evil Dead” is a hilarious and very good horror comedy starring Maggie Carr who plays herself. She is pitching herself for the new series “Ash vs. The Evil Dead” and uses this opportunity to show what she’s capable of.

For other people this kind of premise would fall flat, but Maggie Carr is charming, attractive and very funny. Hell, I’d cast her in a horror movie. I don’t see why she shouldn’t be in “Ash vs. Evil Dead.” The film acts as a meta pitch where Maggie takes us through the motions of a normal horror movie to prove she has the chops. She is approached by the camera, and shows herself inspecting mysterious noises, taking a shower despite the mysterious noises, her ability to be objectified as a sexual object, her willingness to battle a masked slasher, and yes, her trek through a zombie apocalypse.

Carr keeps the film a brisk laugh riot from the moment we meet her, and I just wanted to see so much more of her and her character. Director Bailey Donovan keeps the spotlight on Ms. Carr while also landing some hilarious gags and dark humor in the process. You may not know who Maggie Carr is, but by the end of the movie you’ll be glad you got a chance to meet her and her innards.
