BAD MOVIE MONDAY: ABSURD (1981)

ABSURD is a 1981 Italian slasher movie directed by the legendary Joe D’Amato. It stars George Eastman, Annie Belle, and Edmund Purdom. It was initially written as a sequel to ANTHROPOPHAGUS but, as the legend goes, they rewrote the script when Eastman thought the original was terrible. That’s the “official” narrative, which I personally think is a load of horseshit. My two cents? Slasher movies were pulling in big numbers and the producers, after smelling money the way sharks smell blood, decided to rip off John Carpenter. Literally. There are a bunch of scenes in this film that, while not totally ripped off from Halloween 1 and 2, are close enough that I’m shocked D’Amato wasn’t sued.

BAD MOVIE MONDAY: TRUTH OR DARE? A CRITICAL MADNESS (1986)

TRUTH OR DARE? A CRITICAL MADNESS is a 1986 slasher film directed by Tim Ritter. Its first twenty minutes or so began as a segment in an anthology called “Twisted Illusion” released the year before. It is… not good. The plot holes are… huge. The acting is… a disaster. The direction… I can’t even tell you what the hell was going on there. What I’m trying to say is that this was very nearly the worst movie I have ever personally suggested for Bad Movie Monday, and I’ve suggested a lot of howlers. Which, of course, means it was the BEST movie I ever suggested. So prepare yourselves if you decide to ever watch this for yourselves. This was a hell of a ride.

BAD MOVIE MONDAY: MUTILATIONS (1986)

Yes! THIS exactly what I feel BAD MOVIE MONDAY is all about. This is why I spend hours and hours trying to find the craziest and weirdest stuff to show to my friends. MUTILATIONS is a ridiculous and batshit insane movie about a group of college students investigating cattle mutilations and being stalked by an alien. No bad movie is ever more entertaining than one made by people who legitimately yearn to make a good movie but simply don’t have the skills or money to pull it off. This is all of that and more. So much more.

BAD MOVIE MONDAY: MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE (1986)

Hello Friends! Welcome back to BAD MOVIE MONDAY! Today’s absurd automotive atrocity was one of my picks from last May when I wanted to provide a little extra torture my friends during movie night. MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE is the legendary 1986 train wreck directed by Stephen King.

BAD MOVIE MONDAY: TWIXT (2011)

I think one of the biggest problems with TWIXT is the title. It makes the movie sound like it’s the live action adaptation of a children’s cartoon about plucky ghosts going to school at night and getting taught English by Edgar Alan Poe. A title like TWIXT makes it sound like it should have its own section at the toy aisle in Wal-Mart. In fact, that’s the actual reason I never paid attention to the film when it came out. I thought it was a kid’s movie. It was only more than a decade later that I realized my mistake, and that it was a horror movie directed by Francis Ford Coppola that starred Val Kilmer and Bruce Dern. THEN it got my attention.

BAD MOVIE MONDAY: BLOOD OF THE MUMMY (2019)

This is such a feminine film. Tea parties, exotic costumes, love that spans ages, solving problems by talking rather than fighting, empowerment, examples of Positive Masculinity, examples of Toxic Masculinity, hugging, being understanding, sensitivity, listening to women, taking care of your mental health, dealing with a traumatic past, ripping out men’s hearts with telekenisis, castrating rapists and throwing their severed penises at the wall. You know, girly things! It’s like a Splatterpunk Romance Novel, and I for one am all there for it.
